The Offer
- Buy two 20 ounce bottles of Dr. Pepper sodas and get a free $5 Uber credit
The following sodas are eligible:
- Dr. Pepper
- Diet Dr. Pepper
- Dr. Pepper Cherry
- Diet Dr. Pepper Cherry
This promotion only works on 20 oz. bottles, none other.
You need to submit an image of the barcode. Text the keyword “DRPEPPER” to 811811 to receive a text message with instructions on how to send the barcodes.
The Fine Print
- Promo runs from 2/15 through 5/15
- All submissions of Barcode Images must be received by Monday, May 15, 2016 (sic) at 11:59:59PM ET to be eligible.
- Uber credit expires after 30-days
- Limit of one (1) Reward per day, per person, per email address
- Max ten (10) Rewards throughout the Reward Period
A data point in the comments indicates that the $5-off will be valid through 6/30, but it might only work one discount per Uber ride.
Our Verdict
You can max this offer out by buying 20 sodas and getting $50 in Uber credit. Just be sure to split up the submission to two sodas per day. You can buy all the sodas at once (e.g. a few 6-packs of twenty ounce bottles), but you’ll have to submit at most two barcodes per day.
It might be worth buying the soda even if you won’t drink it, but certainly much better for those who’d buy it anyway. There are some Dr. Pepper bottles that are branded with the Uber promo, but a reader confirms that a non-branded bottle works too.
In the terms, they offer themselves the option to give you a $1 soda coupon instead of the $5 Uber coupon. But for now they’ve been giving the $5 Uber codes; the soda coupon is probably just meant as an ‘out’ for them in case they run out of Uber coupons or whatever.
There’s also a deal at Walmart to get $7 off $10 on a Diet Dr. Pepper purchase. You can buy 20 oz. Diet Dr. Pepper’s at Walmart 70% off, and use those for this Uber credit.
I have an iPhone 5s and I’m with Metro PCS. After texting DRPEPPER to “811-811,” I tried sending the image of both bottles with the UPC code facing the camera, and it fails to deliver. Is there anything I’m doing wrong?
I wonder if the 10x limit is per phone number or Uber account? I.e., if you have 2 mobile numbers, you should be able to generate 20 codes. But can you use all 20 on the same Uber account???
When I text “DRPEPPER” TO 811-811 I get a response text “Service Access Denied”
Any ideas what this means?
Do you have T-Mobile? For some reason, they blocked these short text phone numbers for certain customers. You just have to call and tell them to activate texting short codes from our line(s).
Earning, that is.
For redemption it just takes $5 off a ride. Same as any other one shot dollars off coupon.
I’ve done five so far. One per day.
I now have 2 codes, but it’s not clear to me if I can only use 1 code for each ride. Does anybody know for sure, maybe tried it?
How were you able to get two codes? I purchased six bottles and submitted two of them to get the code fine. Submitted the next two codes (different bottles) and they said it was a duplicate submission. The bar codes are the same, so I can understand the confusion, but they were actually different bottles so I’m not sure how to get beyond this and get my other two $5 codes.
Could you take a photo of all four bottles together maybe?
So do I need to actually buy the bottles??
I can’t believe you are even asking this (for the 3rd time). I know we all like finding loopholes in deals, but what you’re asking is about 2-3 levels beyond that; to me, just a step before stealing. It’s like cutting UPC codes out of boxes at the store and mailing those in.
To answer your question– someone above may have done the thing you’re suggesting and texted 2 photos of 1 UPC code each. Maybe he/she did what you want to do; in any case, the promo replied that they want both codes on a single photo. Maybe you’ll want to position 2 bottles at the store in a way so that you can capture both codes in a single photo and then send that in???
Seems to be working, send pic and get code a day later. The once per day submission may hang people up, so get started immediately!
Edit- it’s the Walmart promo that dies at month end, not the Uber.
FYI Tried my first text as separate pics and got this message
“We’re sorry, we require 2 20oz bottles to be submitted in the same image.”
I used one diet and one original, I guess I’ll pair them up next time.
For some reason when I reply to the text with the picture it will not send, then try to send an email to the support email, gmail says it doesnt exist.
