Update: Bonus still being offered.
Update: Looks like this bonus might have finally been pulled. Can anybody confirm?
Wells Fargo used to offer the Wells Fargo Propel World card online, then that stopped being publicly available, then our hidden links stopped working. Recently it’s still been possible to still get the 40,000 point sign up bonus by going into a Wells Fargo branch, but even that hasn’t worked for everybody.
Readers K F & Darv have shown us that there is another way to get the bonus and that’s by calling in. The process seems to be fairly easy:
- Call Wells Fargo
- Ask to apply for a new credit card
- Specify the card you want to apply for (Wells Fargo Propel World)
- Confirm the bonus & other details
Signing up by phone is almost as tedious as signing up in branch (they read a lot of disclaimers and other information out to you and I imagine Wells Fargo are very cautious when it comes to account openings now). The reason why people might want to consider this card is because of the following:
- Earn 40,000 bonus points with $3,000 in net purchases in the first 3 months.
- Earn 3X points on Airlines, 2X on Hotels, and 1X on other net purchases.
- Get up to $100 in reimbursements each year for qualifying incidental airline charges like airline lounges, baggage fees, and more
- Annual fee of $175 is waived the first year
Points are worth 1¢ each so this bonus is worth $400 + $100 in reimbursements. You can read our full review of this card here. This card is also on our best credit card sign up bonus page, mostly due to the fact I don’t think it’ll be available forever.
Just a word of warning for people: When I signed up for this over the phone, they offered the option of emailing the disclosures and accepting. Being naive, I thought it would be a hassle to get on my email. I was wrong, the disclosures took 25-30 minutes to read. The whole thing took nearly an hour, but I guess for this card may have been worth it.
Lesson: DO THE EMAIL DISCLOSURES.
How many inquiries and new accounts do you have in the last 6 mo? Last 12 mo?
Wish I had seen this message before applying by phone! William Charles, perhaps you could add to your summary? Thanks!
Thanks for the data point
Thanks! Saved me some time. 🙂
Imagine the plight of the CSR!! You killed him/her!
Looks like a good way to ruine someone’s day by calling and coming up with random name and info then let them read the whole thing
This is hilarious lol, thanks for taking one for the team.
William Charles You can still apply for this card online if you use the right link:

Interesting, but no mention of bonus.
This card is no longer being offered, please remove it from the list
FYI I don’t think this is offered anymore – when you call the line for a new credit card the phone system will kick you out saying all sales agents were reassigned to work on existing accounts only. If you fudge your way through under the guise of account maintenance you can get someone to route you to the credit card dept (1-800-642-4720) however when a rep answered from there and I asked to apply for a card she informed me that WF doesn’t do applications over the phone any longer (online only). I asked about the Propel World card specifically and mentioned I thought it was a phone only card and she just said that it wasn’t available and any available card would appear online.
Read the recent comments here… people are getting the card in-branch, not on the phone.
Does anyone know how sensitive Wells Fargo is to MS and specifically to Simon Mall GC purchases?
Applied in person on 4/13 and got approved in branch. Fastest application I’ve ever done in-person. I got lucky and found a branch that didn’t require an appointment.
is it required to apply in branch and not in person ? im scared to open cuz i only make 30k a yr.
Is this credit card offered on the phone still?
Is this credit card offered over phone still?
This is still available, but only at 20K points ($200) for a minimum spend of $1k. Another post on DoC says that WF is about to discontinue this one. Nevertheless, here’s my DPs:
02/15/21 -opened account online (https://www.wellsfargo.com/credit-cards/propel/)
02/21/21 – physical card received in mail
03/13/21 – completed minimum spend of $1k
03/15/21 – This posted to my Go Rewards Account: “20,000 points with $1,000 spend in the first 3 months”, but was noted as “Pending. Will be Available April 8”
04/09/21 – 20k points became available and converted to cash
That’s a different card (Propel); this post is about Propel World.
That’s a different card
Applied and was approved for Propel World AMEX with bonus today, 4/9/21 – YMMV depending on the banker you talk to. I called multiple nearby branches and many told me the card was no longer available since they couldn’t find it on the WF website and the sales division phone line is shut down, but finally managed to speak with a banker who said they would look into it for me and managed to give me a call back in an hour asking me to come into the branch to apply. Was told it was instantly approved and advised card would ship in 5-7 days, but no WF email notification other than your application received. Banker advised card would only be offered until 4/19/21.
I can attest to this as well. I applied on march 26th. Got the card but it is still available till 4/19. Luckily I was connected to my local branch and the banker knew exactly what to do since he had done it before. Guess I got lucky.
How sensitive is this card to Simon Mall GC purchases for the signup bonus?
