The Fine Print
Our Verdict
They offer two types of transfer bonuses like this, one is this percentage bonus and the other is a flat bonus. The percentage bonus actually ends up being pretty similar, in the above you’re getting:
- 2,500 to 99,999 (20% bonus if you exchange the lowest increment)
- 100,000 to 149,999 (25% bonus if you exchange the lowest increment)
- 150,000 to 199,999 (26.66% bonus if you exchange the lowest increment)
- 200,000+ (27.5% bonus if you exchange the lowest increment)
SPG & Marriott are really the only partners worth transferring from:
SPG
SPG has a 1:1 transfer rate and you get a bonus 5,000 miles for every 20,000 SPG points you transfer in addition to this 20-30% transfer bonus.
Marriott
Marriott Hotel + Air Package’s are also good value. 7 nights at a category 1-5 property plus 120,000 miles (150,000 miles with this bonus) would cost you 270,000 Marriott points.
I don’t really value Aeroplan miles highly at all, so this offer is a pass for me. Let me know about your thoughts on it in the comments below. They also seem to offer this bonus frequently, it was last offered late last year.
Hat tip to OMaaT
Marriott transfers 70k to 25k at higher tiers (better than 3:1), and the travel package is 270k to 120k (which is 2.3:1), and you get a 7 night stay
It wouldn’t make sense to transfer Marriott points at 5:1 when you can trade them 3:1 for SPG points, then go 1:1 from there.
Yup, only makes sense in the travel packages.
i actually value AP miles really high… 70k miles for LH F to Europe is the second lowest after Asiana and much easier to work with. YQ is high, but reasonable from certain airports.
One advantage of Aeroplan is that for an infant in lap they charge either $100 or 10k points for international business class on all Star Alliance carriers. Everyone else rips you off, so this could have some value.
