Our Verdict
Cap of 2,500 points/miles on these offers means that they aren’t very attractive at all. They used to offer 5,000/10,000 miles for meeting certain spend requirements each month for 3-4 months, those offers were significantly better. Share any similar deals you received in the comments below and I’ll add them to the post.
Hell DoC – I received an offer for 3x on all purchases for my Barclaycard Aaviator. It does not specify what a “purchase” is so I am wondering if this means anything I charge to the card (i.e. pay the gas, electric, cable etc). What are your thoughts?
I ask also because my Citibank AAdvantage card also sent me an offer that states 5x on eligible purchases like dining, shopping, groceries and more! So I wonder if this excludes gas, cable, electric.
so confusing to keep track of these……..
Hello DoC,
This is probably targeted but I received a AAdvantage Aviator spending bonus offer in my email. Spend $750 in April, May, and June ($2250 total but has to be spread out over the 3 months) and get 10k AA miles 6-8 weeks after the end of the promotion. Missing the mark in any of the 3 months, disqualifies you from the bonus. No sign-up necessary.
I can forward the email to DoC, where should I send it?
James
I got it in the mail today 2x bonus miles on AA aviator on all purchases up to 2,500 thats 3 AA points per dollar. Not bad.
Btw you have to call 1866-928-3075 by 5/31 to activate the offer.
I got the 2x additional up to 2,500 miles category spend in email.
I also got 5,000 miles after $1,000 spend from retention offer.
Do they stack?
Aviator Silver: 2X miles
I have a CashForward card with 12 month APR 0% benefit ending Mid April. I was just notified my CL has been increased 10% without my request.
DoC in effect “made me look”.
Earn 2% bonus cash rewards for every $1 spent, up to $25 cash rewards, on qualifying purchases between April 1 through June 30, 2017.
Fine print: Bonus to be paid one or two months after offer expires just like Elan Financial does.
Select Elan Financial cards have been targeted with an additional 1% bonus after a certain (varies by cardholder) amount has been spent.
FWF members posted about the Elan offer about the first part of March. Only one of my two Fidelity Investment Visa got such an offer, but my regular 1% APR Elan card got a similar offer for additional 1% after $600.00 spend this third quarter.
Should read 1% reward – NOT APR

IMHO, this could be one response to Discover’s 5% CB on home improvement/wholesale club for 2nd quarter (?). The max payout for that is $75.00.
Comparing apples and pears, I guess, 2500 airline miles are comparable to $75. Curious, I checked AA and 3000 miles are sold for $88.50.
Hmm, seems airline miles are as expensive for them as they are to consumers when purchased straight out, although I’m sure there is a contractual break for them based on volume, too.
Just one humble observation.
Got one for the Apple Rewards card that offers 2 extra points per $ at gas stations, home improvement stores, and department stores in Q2.
I received Earn 2x bonus miles (3x total) on grocery stores, home improvement stores & restaurants, max of 2,500 bonus miles on my Aviator… the problem is these miles are nearly impossible to redeem domestically. Some of the partners have decent availability but who can travel to Asia all the time?
plus in 3 days Freedom will 5x at grocery stores and CSR is 3x at restaurants already… so that leaves home improvement… and I’m a renter.
so overall… BLAH
I got grocery, home improvement, and restaurants. During the next quarter I’ll probably use it on restaurants as 3X miles is better than I would get on my other cards.
3X miles on Aviator Red.
