Avoiding Fees
The easiest account to keep fee free seems to be the Simply Free Checking account, this has no monthly fees or minimums to worry about. I wasn’t able to find a fee schedule so I am not sure if there is any early account termination fee charged or not.
Our Verdict
50 debit card transactions is a lot, even if you’re using our tips to meet those requirements. They recently offered a deal for $250 as well. Personally this offer is a pass from me for those two reasons. You can view all the bonuses we do recommend by clicking here.

I just finished posting my follow up info on this bank and the corresponding bonus research. Did anyone see the post? (Chuck or WC?) PLMK and I will post again. Thanks
There is an updated bonus with Home Bank, FL only. The problem is that it is advertised (seemingly ONLY) with a large local billboard outside of a branch in FL. The bonus is $250.
I did stop in and staff was busy and I posed the question to see if I could obtain quick answer about details but was told to wait. I could not so I was handed a business card and told I could call. Will try to put that on my long to-do list.
I have searched but cannot find anything 2018 up to date.
Thanks, when you hear more let us know
Ok, it’s Home Banc (Tampa Bay area, FL).
They offer (up to) $250 Bonus if you choose one of two accounts:
1. Their Pacesetters Club account for 55+. Initial deposit: $5K. DD required
2. Their Prestige interest bearing account. Initial deposit: $1K. DD required.
Must keep open 6 months which is par BECAUSE your DD must start and continue through six months, as well (go figure). 🙂 The rep said there was nothing else; no debit card swipes, no bill pay minimums.
I am sorry to report that the question of HP vs soft didn’t come up in conversation. No monthly fees with DD to the Prestige account. No monthly fee on Pacesetters.
There were some other notes I took, but that’s the most important detailed info I learned from a quick visit. I didn’t intend to be back in the area of the bank but took the opportunity since I was so close to the billboard again. The rest of the discussion took a turn toward rewards for banking activity which was not interesting.
HTH.
Don’t suppose you got a picture of the billboard, was it advertised in branch at all?
No, Will, it wasn’t advertised in the bank at all. All the placards, materials had their normal checking account information. What I gave you was the info on the billboard reviewed by the rep., which also included the small print about the minimum and the DD requirement with no amount shown there.
The other notes had more to do with the rewards program. I did pick up that info, if it’s important. Again, I should have asked about the HP or not. The one thing I can do is call and ask about that and also ask about what is the minimum DD amount required.
there’s a new offer for this bank that’s VERY good! not sure where to post the information for it
send it to [email protected], thanks in advance.
