We originally posted this in July 2017, then reposted it in October 2017 as it was listed as ‘Final Call’. I didn’t think the bonus ever expired, but I’m not sure and other readers are reporting it did so I’m reposting just so people are aware it’s available again.
Reposting because there is an even more public link available now. We originally posted on June 26th, 2017.

Our Verdict
Best recent offer is 60,000 miles, but the all time public high is 100,000 miles. I doubt we will ever see the 100,000 mile bonus again (or at least anytime soon) but it’s entirely possible if American Airlines keeps up the trend of having no saver award space available and devaluing the program. The card does come with a hefty $450 annual fee, you really need to be able to use the Admirals Club access to get any sort of value out of this card even with the 75,000 point sign up bonus. Standard sign up bonus is 50,000 miles.
Personally this card is a pass for me, AA miles don’t excite me and neither does a $450 annual fee. As always if you have any questions about this card or Citi in general, please read this detailed post first.
Hat tip to reader Diamond Vargas & Russ B
the offer is also available at Citi.com/lounge
this link was at 60k when the public facing offer was still at 50k
This link also has the same offer https://secure.fly.aa.com/citi/direct-exec
Doesn’t this card also give you 10% miles back on redemptions? That seems like the biggest benefit to a frequent traveler who had accrued a lot of AA miles from other sources.
I do not believe it applies to any of the Citi branded AA cards. If you have any other card AA card that gives the 10% back on redemptions, then it wouldn’t matter anyway because AA will only give you 10% back maximum (10,000 miles) in any given year. For example, both Barclays AA Silver and Red have this 10% benefit. I have both. The maximum miles I’d get back is 10,000, not 20,000.
Anyone know how to request a match for this card? Just applied last week at 50k (had some AA trips this month) but in MY account it says Secure Message is not available for this card. Anybody else run into that?
Bummer, I’m 24-month rule’d out on this one. I’d absolutely churn another 75k AA miles, even when saver ability was at its worst, I could get a ton of value out of redemptions on CX, JAL, Qatar, even Finnair.
That said, as an AA frequent flyer, the Admirals Club membership + ability to give a whole bunch of your friends/family Admirals Club access is huge. Us spoiled people may find Admirals Clubs underwhelming, but my dad and stepmom think they are amazing .
I noticed that AA availability has actually been better lately. I was looking be to book a trip between Chicago and Denver at the end of the summer and found a lot more saver award space for both business and economy than United. The catch is that weekend availability was non-existent; I only saw weekday.
Yea, lots of reports AA is better availability. Doc just reposted the article from a year ago, so his last part about availability hasn’t been updated.
Any zombie link for the recently expired Platinum cards (personal & business)? In the past there were always such links after the expiration date because it is Citibank.
It looks like this offer is back.

Don’t think it ever actually disappeared?
I was looking a couple weeks ago and couldn’t seem to find it (was 50k everywhere). I could be wrong though.
AA miles are getting too difficult to use.
Delta has no consistency with award charts.
UAL is terrible to endure, as are the discount carriers.
Whose air miles are the best to collect and redeem?
No more 75k available via the links on this post
DoC- Can you get a retention offer in year one with this card (after you get the 75k bonus) or do you need to wait to year 2? Trying to combat the annual fee.
You can try for a retention offer whenever you like, more details here: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/retention-bonus-rules-tips-for-each-card-issuer-get-more-than-one-bonus-each-year/
