The Offer
- Buy a new Prime membership for only $79 when ordering on an Alexa device
Simply ask Alexa how much it’ll cost for Prime and it’ll give the $79 offer. Say, “Alexa, sign me up for Prime” to order.
This offer won’t work to renew an existing membership, but it will work for someone who had Prime and let it expire and now wants to pay for Prime again.
The Fine Print
- Valid on Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Show or Amazon Tap
- Expiration unknown
Our Verdict
The timing is good with Prime Day coming up. Probably not worth buying Prime just for Prime Day, but if you’re on the fence anyway, now is a time a lot of people will be buying membership. Hopefully Dash Wand (see how to do that here) will also be offering this deal. If you’ve recently signed up for Prime then reader Mike was able to get refunded the difference.
$79 is a nice deal, though keep in mind that there are numerous ways to get Prime for below the standard $99 fee. Here is the list of currently available deals on Prime:
- Low-income households can pay $5.99 per month
- Students can get six months free thanks to Sprint (our affiliate link)
- JetBlue is offering 3,000 miles
- Ibotta offering $20 Amazon gift card
- Topcashback is offering $15 cash back
- $79 for New Amazon Prime Member with Alexa
- 30 day free trial (our affiliate link)
Not working in Amazon Music app’s Alexa either.
Is this still working for anyone else? I couldn’t get it to trigger.
The gift membership does not automatically renew and is not eligible for promotional offers.
How much is the qualifying device purchase?
Doesn’t work on Dash Wand 🙁 (for “how much does Prime cost” tells me “99”).
Although, to be clear, I already have Prime (technically a gift membership from myself), so not sure if that matters.
If anybody else tries, let us know.
Yeah, if you have Prime, it’ll tell you $99.
Oh ok, got it. In that case, that is why it did not work for me.
My wand tells me it’s not able to manage Prime subscriptions.
I was transfered on Chat to Dash support and they flat out refused to honor the $79 deal on a device that wasn’t a:
“Echo, Echo Dot, Amazon Tap, or Echo Show.”
Hmm, I guess this deal doesn’t work on Wand then, since Wand can’t deal with Prime. Thanks for the DP.
We just signed up for Prime (our free trial literally ended two days ago) and we have an Echo Dot so I contact Customer Support and asked them to credit us the $20 difference. It was super easy if you’re in a similar position.
Thanks, adding to post.
I’m starting to get annoyed by that fact that all these Amazon prime day deals are only targeting new users…
Me too.
No kidding. I think this will finally be the final straw that makes me create a second account.
