Prime Day has now ended.
Deal is back. This has been super popular so reposting. Also worth pointing out that Ancestry.com has lowered their DNA package to $69 in response. Some more information on the differences here.
Update: This offer has expired. They now have the DNA-only 23andMe tests on sale for $49 instead of $99.
The Offer

- 23andMe is offering a DNA test, this contains 75 reports as well (see below for an example)
- You can also get the Ancestry only test for $49 (normally $99). Reader David points out you can get similar health analysis by paying another $5 to a different company.
The Fine Print
- Ends in a few hours
- No limit per person
Our Verdicts
Genetic testing isn’t for everybody and you should do some research before purchasing this for yourself or somebody else. Here is a good place to start. Knowing that you’re at a genetic risk for something or a carrier for something can really play with your mind. I personally find these sorts of reports to be insanely interesting, but as I said this definitely is not for everybody. I can stress how important it is to do some research before purchasing! Originally this was posted in our Amazon Prime Day sticky but this has been by far the most popular deal so I wanted to do a main site post as well. As always remember you can stack further discounts for an even bigger savings.
If you’ve done one of these tests before, share your thoughts in the comments below.
So what is the best DNA price now? Is the $49 deal expected to resurface?
The $199 DNA/Genetic/Ancestry kit is back live as 50% off.
Yup as mentioned in post
While yesterday’s $99 deal is gone, 23andme through Amazon is still offering the “Health + Ancestry” kit for $129 (price drops in cart) on 7/11.
On the other hand, I would argue that the “Ancestry” kit currently on sale for only $49 is actually the better option, since you still get access to the same raw DNA data. With that raw DNA data and sites like promethease.com, you get access to the same type of personalized “health” analysis for only $5. So for only $54 total, you get the same personalized information as the $99 or $129 23andMe “Health + Ancestry” deal.
@David are you sure it’s the case? is it your own experience, or any source confirming it?
I always thought that “Ancestry” option will only include raw data related to the ancestry, otherwise who would like to pay twice more for almost the same information…
@c3v I can confirm that the “Ancestry” option includes the same raw DNA data as the full “Health + Ancestry” option. The only difference which 23andMe charges more for is access to their own online health reports. The DNA test and raw DNA data output are the same, regardless of which option you choose.
Personally, I utilized 23andMe several years ago during a previous sale, and I took advantage of yesterday’s 50% discount to buy my wife the “Ancestry” package as well. There is also a long thread about this 23andMe deal on SlickDeals, with many others confirming those same points about Promethease.
I realize that the sale is now over, so it’s too late for the $49 pricing, but I hope that info helps others in the DoC community the next time a deal like this comes up again.
it’s gone 🙁
This was a great deal, but it appears to be gone now.
i already know i came from monkeys and aliens so i dont need a test to tell me that…
