BBVA NBA Card to Become Straight 1.5% Everywhere Card

We’ve known that the BBVA NBA Amex cards will be replaced this month with some sort of generic BBVA Amex card. It’s now become apparent that the new card will be a straight 1.5% cash back everywhere card. The new earnings rate will begin on November 17, 2017. Until that time, I assume it will remain with the current 1% earn.

Reddit user Mtn_nut got a letter from BBVA about the new card (seems like it came along with the new card):

1.5% cards aren’t interesting in the 2%+ world that we live in today. As far as we can tell, there won’t be any sort of 5% categories on the card, just flat 1.5%.

I wouldn’t signup for the card now. Since I already have it, I’ll keep it as a no-fee Amex card for use on Amex Offers. The BBVA card will also give you access to select BBVA Offers (similar to Bank Amerideals offers) which might even be able to stack occasionally with Amex Offers when there’s a deal on both for the same vendor.

I got the card in the mail and am directed to activate it. If I don’t activate it, will it not be an account on my credit report or is it too late for that? Thank.

Do you know how to check Amex Offers on cards like this one? FB doesn’t work now.

I was going to cancel this card, but on light of this new information, I think ill keep this card until they close it down for MS related mischief. The Amex offers are awesome though & its not goin to hurt to keep it.

But Third Party American Express Card are only able to access amex offers via Twitter. And most of the Twitter deals are not exciting recently.

The real value of this card lies in its ability to stack BBVA offers with Amex offers. Otherwise, yes, 1.5% is pointless.

Don’t you need BBVA checking as well to access those BBVA offers?

You’re right. I get the offers even though I don’t have a BBVA checking.
