The Offer
No direct link, targeted offer
- Citi has sent out an offer for up to $700 when you open a new new regular checking account. The bonus you receive depends on what account package you open:
- $700 bonus. Open a Citigold Account Package and make $1,000 in debit card purchases and pay one or more bills for two consecutive months
- $500 bonus. Open a Citi Priority Account Package and make $750 in debit card purchases and pay one or more bills for two consecutive months
- $300 bonus. Open a Citibank Account Package and make $375 in debit card purchases and pay one or more bills for two consecutive months
- $50 bonus. Open a Citi Priority Account Package and make $125 in debit card purchases and pay one or more bills for two consecutive months
The Fine Print
- Valid until June 30th, 2018
- All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them
Avoiding Fees
Citigold Account Package ($700 Bonus)
This account has no monthly fee but you need an average monthly balance of $200,000 to be eligible.
Citi Priority Account Package $30 Monthly Fee ($500 bonus)
- The Citi Account Package has a monthly fee of $30, this is waived if you maintain a combined average monthly balance of $50,000 or more in eligible linked deposits, retirement and investment balances. There is no early account termination fee for this account.
Citi Account Package $25 Monthly Fee ($300 Bonus)
- The Citibank Account Package needs $10,000 in combined average monthly balances to remain fee free. Otherwise, there is a $25 monthly fee.
Early Termination Fee
In the past, Citi has not charged any ETF, and none is mentioned for this offer.
Our Verdict
Citi is currently offering $400/$600 bonuses that are much better than this deal. The $700 bonus isn’t worth considering due to the $200,000 deposit requirement, you’d be better off putting that money into a high interest account or investing it in the market depending on your risk tolerance.  Keep in mind the Citigold & Priority account packages also reduce the annual fee on the Prestige by $100. Because this deal is targeted and there are better bonuses available I won’t be adding this to the best bonus list.

Anyone has the same issue of not seeing the cash bonus? I recevied the email promotion with my name on it, and opened the checking account back in Dec and make the required deposit of 50k, all req met, but still haven’t seen the promised $700 cash bonus. Called citi a few times, and got transferred and transferred.. yet still no resolution.
Never trust Citibank, they will take your money, promising bonus, but when 150 days passed since requirements have been met, they say “we don’t see promotions on your account” even thought I called them every month just to make sure that the account is set up correctly and I am am getting the bonus.
I suggest to take your money and bank somewhere else
Shame, CITI!
P.S. their costumer service is outsource to India, be ready to talk to people who don’t put customers FIRST.
“costumer service”
It’s funny how common this particular typo is in business reviews, lol. This is the third time I’ve seen it in the past week.
Just received my debit card
Got 2 questions:
1) For $1000 in debit card purchase, do i physically have to use my card in store and put in the PIN, or can i use the “credit” feature of the debit card.
2) If i use the APPLE PAY feature of my phone/watch, will that count toward the $1000 in debit spend?
Thanks guys!
My offer is for 60k, 50k , 30k or 5k miles.
I closed my citi checking/savings account a month ago. Do I need to wait for 6 months to open new account to get bonus?
I got one but in TY Points (1cpp conversion)
I got this mailer today with an expiration date of 6/30/2019
Mine just arrived today so seems like they are sending out another round 🙂
DP:
1. Opened 12/26 (got mailer, had been denied 3 months before for similar offer)
2. Met reqs on Feb 4 (bought $750 money order at Publix + made 1 bill pay for 2 months)
3. $500 bonus paid Apr 4 (2 months later)
So you had to pay $75 in fees for not having $50k in the account?
No, I was surprised that I never got charged any fees. I called to close account and it was done in 5 minutes, no termination fee either.
Does in branch offer still have the 180 day requirement for not being a Citi customer?
Think so
Gotham where was this bonus available in branch? I went to two branches in Manhattan and neither were offering it. One however did confirm that it still exists as a targeted offer.
