Visa Deal
There’s also a coupon showing to get $5 off a $50 Visa or Mastercard gift. This coupon is part of ‘25 Merry Special Days‘ and must be loaded on December 3rd only. It’ll be valid until December 31. Seems to be available in some places, not others.
Fixed-value Visa/MC gift cards should earn fuel points as well.
Our Verdict
The standard deal at Kroger is 2x fuel points on gift card purchases, and they’ll occasionally release offers like this one to get 4x fuel points. Usually, every 1000 fuel points will get you a discount of $1 per gallon with a 35-gallon limit, a max value of $35 per 1000-points. (These details do vary by store and region.) You can also get free cell phone service with Kroger when you earn fuel rewards points.
Hat tip to SD and SD
FWIW, this promo didn’t quite work for me.
I got the $5 off but only got 90 (!) fuel points buying a $50 VGC.
I went to customer service and they manually gave me another 90 fuel points.
I didn’t bother with the remaining 20 fuel points (should be total 200 but got 180 with half of that from customer service/money order desk).
Just FYI.
Do these Kroger 4x Fuel Points for purchasing Gift Cards promotions ever work for Ralphs? I seem to never be able to locate the digital coupon in my Ralphs rewards account, but can find it using the same log-in via Kroger. However, when purchasing at Ralphs, I do not receive the 4x the points.
I have seen advertisement in my local Ralphs store this time, so it should work right now. Other times if it is not advertised in store then most likely not working. However, they recently added that Gas Station gift cards no longer earn fuel points, which wasn’t in the fine prints at first I believe.
My Kroger owned store is Baker’s SuperMarkets. I got the bug and did the November 4x fuel points deal buying fast food place GCs. I tried $40.00 of GCs mixed with groceries. That worked but put me at 628 fuel points. I went back to the display and got another $40.00 of fast food GCs. Despite being a separate activity, it gave me another 80 fuel points making my total 708 fuel points which I have used successfully. Gas here is Kroger’s private label .. NOT Shell.
What I just learned is the Shell Fuel Saver program has some kind of thing going on that gives 15 cents off $100.00 spent at Bakers or a few other area grocers when you pay with a card registered in the Shell Fuel Saver app.
The next problem would be finding a participating Shell gas station. AFIK, the Baker’s fuel points program and the Shell Fuel Saver program are different offers.
Looks like the differences between this one and the one a couple weeks ago (from a MS perspective) is no once per day language and no denomination limit for fixed value cards. Does Kroger sell any fixed cards higher that $100? I can’t remember what they had the last time I went.
No denomination limit then or now? Terms for current offer say, “Offer excludes Mastercard® and/or Visa® $25, $100, Multipacks and Variable Load Gift Cards.”, so it looks like it is limited to $50 cards.
The new 4x fuel point offer doesn’t list a denomination. $50 is for the $5 off offer only. It’ll be a little annoying trying to liquidate a bunch of small cards like that but it’d doable.
My last 4X offer was the one DoC posteed, but had a different expiration than Doc. Mine is goo til Nove 12. I add this one, but with the Best Buy / Chase Pay deal, I have excess third party GCs. Bust Buy stopped teh sale of Visa GC at the register. (<8< ((
WHAT are you saying???
Correction. My Kroger Digital wallet now has the offer DoC posted and a separate 4X fuel points from November expiring the day before DoC’s posted 4X fuel points offer. Fine print say they cannot be stacked.
Hat tip to SD and SD?
And to SD for the hat-trick.
My 2 local Kroger stores do not allow purchases of Visa/MC gift cards with a credit card. One of them used to but stopped early this year.
Is it hard coded or just management policy?
1st try clerk said no, 2nd try register refused card.
try going through the self checkout. its easy to activate them yourself at the self checkouts. just scan, and it asks how much you want to load.
tip: you can even use kroger gift cards to buy them as long as you put a small dummy item through first.
Seriously self check out? WOW! I never thought to even try that! Was this at a Kroger?
I buy gift cards at kroger exclusively at the self check out. If you need to swipe instead of using chip you’ll habe to have the attendant approve it, but otherwise no issues.
It announces the value of the gift cards loudly but you can hit the volume control to mute the terminal
it was a Fred Meyer actually, but the same company. I can’t imagine it wouldn’t work at a Kroger
I get GCs with my BCP every month at my local Kroger; never had a problem with either the register or a cashier. Self-checkout works like a charm, and once you have the hang of it is faster than a regular cashier (as is often the case).
If paying with Samsung Pay or a card with no chip (like a MC/V GC) the register will require the cashier to enter your DL# if the dollar amount is over $100, but under $100 there’s no system prompt and with a chip card (like my BCP) even over $100 there’s no prompt for ID. It’s not an issue in any case, but at self-checkout it’s easier to just make the transaction <$100 since the cashier isn't always immediately available.
And there is a maximum ($2000?) how much you can do in one transaction (I think 3x$500 is doable although I haven’t done that much in a while).
