I always find basic economy a little absurd given competition. If AA is charging $180 economy and $170 basic economy (with severe restrictions), they often forget that Jetblue charges $100 for a flight with much more room than their regular economy.
JetBlue doesn’t serve nearly as many cities as AA does. Obviously if you have the choice of flying JetBlue then you’d take it, but for most routes it just isn’t an option
