Navy Federal Credit Union (NFCU): 0%/1.99% APR For 12 Months & 0% Balance Transfer Fee For New & Existing Cardholders

Update 1/2/19: Deal is back for 2020, most members will see the 1.99% offer but some will be lucky enough to get the 0% offer. Technically these weren’t supposed to go live until 9AM ET on the 3rd, but looks like the offers have gone out early. If you don’t see it maybe just wait until tomorrow.

Update: Deal is back for 2019, but only available to some. Should show up on sign in if eligible. If you don’t see it then you should see a deal for a 1.99% rate. Hat tip to reader WhatABargain

The Offer

No direct link to offer

  • Navy Federal is offering a 0% APR on balance transfers to new and existing Navy Federal credit cardholders for 12 months. They also charge no balance transfer fees.

The Fine Print

  • Currently, rates range from 6.99% APR to 18% APR, are based on product type and creditworthiness, and will vary with the market based on the U.S. Prime Rate.
  • Maximum total transfer amount is limited to your approved credit line. Balance transfers using convenience checks are excluded from this offer.
  • If you transfer a balance with this offer, interest will be charged on purchases made with your credit card unless your purchases have a 0% APR, or you pay the entire balance (including any transferred balances) in full each month by the payment due date
  • . Offer applies to balance transfers requested within 30 days of account opening.
  • Applications must be submitted between 1/2 and 2/28 of 2019.
  • Limit of one promotional offer at account opening.
  • If you transfer a balance to an existing Navy Federal credit card, you will receive a 0% APR on the balance transferred for 12 months.
  • After that, your standard variable purchase APR will apply to any balance remaining.
  • No single balance transfer can be greater than $30,000.
  • You may transfer a balance to an existing Navy Federal credit card by logging into your account online, calling 1-800-842-6328, or visiting a branch office.
  • Must transfer balances to existing accounts by Feb. 28, 2019.

Our Verdict

Pretty great deal, especially as it works for existing cardholders as well. I think this is something NFCU offers at the start of each year. You can read more about NFCU credit cards here. You can also see a full list of credit cards that offer 0% APR with no balance transfer fees here.

0% BT fee days are long gone with most cards. I need to transfer and I am not finding anything lower than 3% Fee but mostly with new cards. I think DOC should (hope DOC is reading this) make a new category for “Lowest Fee Balance Transfer Promos”.

You can get a 0% for 12 month and $0 fee BT with first tech federal credit union.
I just opened one.

Guessing Navy isn’t doing it for 2021. I guess I chose a bad year to join Navy (2020) low CLI and no yearly BT offer. Meh

I’m not seeing the 1.99% offer this year. Normally by this time, it would have been posted to the NFCU homepage no later than Jan 3rd. Does anyone know whether they are offering it to existing card holders this year? They’ve done it since I’ve been a member.

I’m still not seeing this offer either on the homepage, after logging in, or on the app.

All I am seeing is a green card with red ribbon “0% intro Apr and $150 cash back” icon.

Where is this exactly? The balance transfer offers are usually more prominent.

This offer was for 2019 and in 2020. Nothing has been promoted yet for 2021… However, the promotions page now simply encourages members to apply for a Balance Transfer in general (no promotion), so we may not see it this year unfortunately.

Same here. I was really banking on the balance transfer option for existing card holders. They typically post it by now on their website. Indefinitely going to keep checking.

Saw this briefly on the Offers page of their website yesterday, disappeared after I logged back in later in the day to actually use the offer. The offer showed up in my email today and took advantage of the offer.

Do you still have the disclosure form for this card? I am looking to find the specific details. I also took advantage of this offer and I am now having an issue with NFCU, and they are having a hard time finding a copy of the disclosure to send to me (threw mine away by mistake). I was put on hold multiple times, was finally sent a disclosure that has all of the wrong terms on it and must be from a different card.

The offer appears to be one of the rotating offer blocks on the front page of the website – 1.99% for all cardholders. Don’t need to be logged in.

Datapoint — Charlie Brown: “I got a rock.”
Longtime NFCU member and high CL cardholder, FICO consistently 800+. Didn’t receive online offer. Called in, asked if I qualified for any BT offer, put me on hold long time & then came back and said “no offer for you.” My luck, the one year I could use this to manage a cash flow issue and get a rock.

Agriculture FCU, another CU of which I am a member, has a no-fee BT for 9-months at 1.99%. https://www.agfed.org/loans-credit-cards/199-apr-balance-transfer-special/

Field of membership includes anyone who lives, works, worships, or goes to school in DC; members of Select Employer Groups, incl. some easy-to-join organizations; family members of same.

Look again in a week. They roll these out over time. I’ve always ended up getting one but not as quickly as some of my friends. The 1.99% one should end up being available for everyone.

I am not a veteran or have anyone in my close relatives who are. Do you know how I can get a membership with NFCU?

Join and serve your country :). Or work as a civilian at a DOD location. Otherwise those are the only ways unless married or can get membership through family someway
