The Offer
- U.S. Bank is offering a bonus on the Travel Rewards Visa card for the winter Olympics. Now that the Olympics are over we know the bonus is a total of 32,100. Broken down as follows:
- 25,000 FlexPoints after $2,000 in spend
- 4,500 for gold medals (9 gold earning 500 each)
- 2,000 for silver medals (8 silver earning 250 each)
- 600 for bronze medals (6 bronze earning 100 each)
Card Details
- Card earns at the following rates:
- 2x FlexPoints on the category you spend the most on (at gas stations, grocery stores or airlines) and at most cell phone service providers during each billing cycle.
- 1x FlexPoints on all purchase purchases
- $49 annual fee waived first year
Our Verdict
We were expecting around 7,450 points based on previous years, so this is slightly lower than expected but not by much. Keep in mind that FlexPerks are worth a maximum of 1.5¢ per point now though. Also keep in mind this card is eligible for real-time rewards making these points easier to use and get that 1.5¢ value. The issue with this bonus is that it’s offered by U.S. Bank and getting approved for their cards are difficult, some people would be better off trying to get the U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve instead. As always before applying for this or any other U.S. Bank card read these things everybody should know. I will be adding this bonus to our list of the best credit card sign up bonuses.

I opened this card during the 2016 Olympics promotion & received both bonuses. Closed the card in March, applied for same 2 days later & approved. I received the Olympics bonus after the 2nd statement and signup bonus after 3rd statement, having completed minimum spend. No contact with the bank on my part. So, it is possible to churn this card with the Olympics bonus.
DP:
*also hold Atitude Reserve & AmEx Gold cards
*did not change CL in order to apply again
*new CL is 1/3 of the just closed card
*was not given option to downgrade when I closed first card
*ARS/IDA both frozen & have been prior to any USBank card apps
That’s “Altitude” not atitude. Also to clarify: I cancelled the card in March 2018 and was approved for another & received both signup and PyeongChang Olympics bonuses.
My 32,100 just posted today all at one time. Met min spend over a month ago before first statement even hit. Not sure why it took until after second statement but not complaining because it finally posted.
SO’s account:
4/5/2018 on statement close, normal 25000 bonus points posted, and 4990 regular earned points on first statement spend.
5/7/2018 12,100 bonus points posted.
Why is it 5000 more points than expected? Not complaining, but hopefully no claw-backs occur. I did try to refer her, but was told this promo couldn’t combine with referrals. Certainly nobody would be silly enough to “call the bank”!
Figured it out why she got 5k more points. I had SO refer me to the USB Flexperks Gold Amex. I really didn’t think the referral would work because she doesn’t have that specific card, and we both already had this card, but I guess it did.
I completed the $2K spend a couple of weeks ago. My statement posted yesterday, and along with it came the 32100 points. No delay.
I completed my $2000 spend on March 28th and put an additional $398.34 spend on this card. However, I currently have 27,619 points. Does anyone know how long it may take to receive the full 32,100+ points?
I just them because I haven’t gotten the Olympic bonus yet either. The woman on the phone said that the offer ended on April 5th and it takes 6-8 weeks from when offer expires before rewards are applied. Hopefully she knows what shes talking about…
SO submitted an SM two days ago asking about bonus from Olympics promo, because she only got the standard 25K points after using the Olympics link.
Their response: We show you will receive your bonus points six to eight weeks after the promotion expired on 04/06/2018.
I did the Olympics promo almost 2 years ago and the entire 32K bonus posted with the regular points in the same entry. Either they changed how they do it, or the CSR is throwing her a line of BS. Essentially they are saying don’t contact us again until early June.
So anyway, those that think they didn’t qualify because they took the preapproval offer of $500 spend might get a surprise sometime soon.
I guess gift cards is a no go on this card? Or has US Bank cooled down on it?
I won’t need to do much since it gives me 4 months for $2k spend, but still would like to know.
Anyone have a data point for the $25 travel credit?
Had preapproved offer for 25k points on $500 spend. Took that offer under the assumption that I’d receive the additional bonus points. I was denied the bonus since I didn’t apply using the Olympic link. Just FYI
Anybody see the bonus hit yet?
SO’s acct: 25K standard bonus hit April 5th. She used Olympics link.
Did the extra 7100 points post separately for others? Or everyone still waiting?
