Discover it Miles – $75 Statement Credit + 3% Cashback First Year

The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Discover is offering a $75 statement credit after you make your first Amazon.com purchase on the Discover it Miles. This is in addition to getting your cashback doubled in the first year (making this a 3% cash back card for first year)

The Fine Print

  • No annual fee
  • Card earns 1.5x miles per $1 spent, doubled in your first year (miles are worth 1¢ each)
  • $30 Inflight WiFi credit
  • Our full review

Our Verdict

Previously you had been able to get $50 via referral and that was doubled first year, but that no longer works. So this is the new ‘best offer’. I wonder if Discover will continue to improve the bonus now that Chase is offering 3x on the Chase Freedom Unlimited first year? Upside to this miles card is that it’s issued by Discover so no need to worry about the Chase 5/24 rule. As always before applying for this card, read these things everybody should know about Discover cards.

Would anyone happen to have a working link for this?

Can you get the $75 statement credit offer on Discover IT MILES while using a referral link? What does the referrer get for a referral bonus on IT MILES?

can you reload your amazon balance w/say a $1 — will that trigger the sign up bonus on this card?!

I dont see any probs going this route. the offer language doesnt mention any min amount — but not sure if one is needed to trigger the bonus. I presume the reload will come thru the same processor/channels as any other purchase — thus triggering the bonus. thoughts?

I can confirm that sending a gift card (I sent to my spouse) for a little over a $1 triggered the $75 Amazon Discover bonus. I thought it was safer than a reload.

Wouldn’t the statement credit ALSO double? I mean, the referral bonus applied as a statement credit too effectively, so I don’t see a reason why this wouldn’t either (besides the obvious that it shouldn’t count, but obviously it had been in the past).

Statement credit is not “cashback”.

Neither is a referral bonus though. That’s my point.

Anybody can confirm if this $75 offer is doubled after 1 year?

Discover IT 5% Cash is probably still better if you can max out the categories like warehouse/amazon/groceries/gas. double cash back on 5% first year is pretty sweet.

Can the miles earned with this card be cashed out or are the miles purely for planning travel?

“You can redeem Miles in any amount as a credit toward travel purchases on your statement or get cash as a direct deposit to your bank account.”

You say,

“Previously you had been able to get $50 via referral and that was doubled first year, but that no longer works”

I have a Datapoint from February that shows the opposite. I referred someone and they show the $100 Bonus ($50 at First Statement and $50 in their CashBack Match). Where are you getting the information that it no longer will do this?

“Discover will usually match sign up bonuses. If they don’t, make sure you escalate to a manager.”

Spoke to both CSR and CSM and they both said I had to have gone through the Amazon link to get this so they will not be able to match me to this bonus.

Yes you can, you can convert miles to IT and IT to miles at any time, (done it several times), but you have to wait for the statement to cut to see the change.
