The Offer
- American Express is offering a 25% transfer bonus when you transfer Membership Rewards points to Flying Blue (rewards program of KLM & AirFrance) until June 15th. Normally the transfer ratio is 1:1, under this promotion it will be 1:1.25. For example transfer 1,000 Membership Rewards points and receive 1,250 miles.
The Fine Print
- Valid until June 15th, 2018
Our Verdict
Transfer bonuses to FlyingBlue have been few and far between. The history is as follows:
Public transfer bonuses:
- September 10th – September 16th, 2012: 35% bonus
- February 1st – February 29th, 2012: 25% bonus
Targeted transfer bonuses:
- October 15th till November 26th, 2015: 30%
- November 20th till December 15th, 2014: 30% bonus
- May 1st till May 31st, 2013: 35% bonus
Keep in mind Flying Blue is making significant changes to their loyalty program on June 1st, replacing award charts with an award calculator. Personally I wouldn’t transfer points to Flying Blue miles unless you plan to use them before that change. There are some good sweet spots such as one way flights to Hawaii/Caribbean for 15,000 miles when flying Delta. Biggest problem with that is finding availability. They also frequently have discounts of 25% to Europe. Unfortunately none of these are available from North America currently. Share any other good uses of Flying Blue miles in the comments. As always we maintain a full list of current & past American Express transfer bonuses here.
