Exxon Mobil Rewards+ Loyalty Program Launches – What You Need To Know

Exxon Mobile has officially launched their new rewards program called rewards+. Previously Exxon Mobil was part of the Plenti coalition loyalty program. If you were a previous Plenti user and earned points through Exxon Mobil and agreed to data sharing then any unused points will be converted to the new Exxon Mobil program within 7-14 business days. The launch of the new program has not gone smoothly (more issues discussed here).

Program Basics

Direct link to new program

  • 100 points = $1 in savings
  • Earning rates as follows:
    • 3x points per gallon
    • 2x points per $1 spent on items inside store (excluding tobacco, lottery, cash back, gift cards, money order, membership/loyalty, financial prepaid cards, aviation and marine fuels, milk (Pennsylvania, Maine, and Massachusetts)
  • Sign up bonus of 100 points and 15x points per gallon for the next 30 days
  • You can link your Exxon Mobile Rewards+ account with the Exxon  Mobile SpeedPass+ app. If you sign up through SpeedPass then you get 50¢ off  per gallon on Synergy fuel if you sign up for the credit card
  • Full FAQ found here

Our Verdict

Program isn’t hugely exciting but if you get gas from Exxon Mobil then you might as well sign up. Prices can be higher than other chains, but that really varies by location. Keep in mind eBay frequently has discounted gift cards available as well (currently available here). You can also get another 2% back through Dosh. There is also currently a 10% back AmEx offer as well.

the exxon loyality card program sucks. I cannot use it at the pump. the cashier
at the station said I have to pay inside to get my points. I always pay at the pump. I’m very disappointed!
I guess I will cancel my account and get a Chevron card.

Can someone clarify the way this thing works? For most fuel rewards, you gotta fill up when you’re completely empty to maximise the redemption, as the discount given is per gallon.

Here, the discount is instead a fixed 1.00 off for each 100 points, without any per-gallon redemption? No need for any containers or finding friends and sharing a fill-up?!

And the earn is rounded to the nearest gallon?

Did I get this right, or is there something more into it? Also got the 10% on my BRG, the experience is kinda nice, but, unlike Shell, they don’t show any prices in the app.

8 days later and program is still unavailable at my usual station even though the online locator tells me it is.

Can I still use the plenti card to get gas at exxon mobile?

I pump 30 gallons every 2 days, so this change is very welcome. I’m actually very tempted to re-signup just to take advantage of the 15x for 30 days.

not nearly as exciting as the Shell Fuel program. As you have noted, I consistently found Exxon’s price higher than other chains even when they are next door. always good to have more options, but meh

Where I live, this is also true. There’s an Exxon a half-mile from my work location – it’s 15 cents per gallon more expensive than the BP or Shell near my house. But hopefully this is useful for someone.

Around me, Exxon and Mobil tend to be among the cheapest, while most Shell stations are quite a bit more expensive. If I’m willing to drive a bit, there’s a Shell that’s the cheapest in the entire state according to Gasbuddy. So with FR and Stop & Shop’s recent gift card deals, that’s where I go. My Exxon Mobil gift cards are in the sock drawer for now.

Can I still get the 15pts/gallon if I pay via GC?

Yes. The loyalty program is independent of the payment method.

While the account activation via Web seems to be broken, because exxon can’t decide wether or not I have an account, the activation via Speedpass app was trivial: ‘Loyalty Tab’ – ‘Take action’ – , create PIN. Done.

PNC is the best and simplest. 4% gas, 3% utilities, 2% groceries, 1% everything else.

Maybe for you. I can think of several cards that earn higher rates in each category (individually). For those advanced users who can manage to carry more than one credit card, using PNC by itself is pretty lousy.

Can this be used with the amex 10% off offer and dosh 2% back?

I don’t see why not.

Yes. I am combining the rewards program, the 10cent/gallon off Speedpass promo, 2% back via Dosh, and 10% back via Amex.
