Our Verdict
These types of offers come around fairly frequently. We recently saw 20% on Whole Foods/Gap giving values of 1.06¢-1.25¢ per point. Most readers will get more value out of transferring to American Express travel partners, you can also cash out points for 1.25¢ each if you hold the Charles Schwab Platinum card as well.
Hat tip to Frequent Miler
What’s the point? I’d just use the Amex travel portal to redeem a delta ticket for 1cpp and only use as many MRs as I care to use.
I got a similar deal on Nordstrom, which is actually tempting. Also there is still that Delta offer on $160 off 800. But I guess that does not with buying Delta giftcards.
Usually those Delta offers do work with gift cards. But can’t be stacked with MR points.
Why do this over redeeming statement credit?
redeeming for statement credit is less than 1 cent per point for membership rewards.
because if you don’t have the charles schwab you get less than 1c per point
I guess this is better than transfering to delta if the cash price were oddly low? How often does that happen that this could contend with an average redemption?
Often enough that I have an example for you.
JFK-YUL ticket price = $99, Econ award ticket at 10500 + 5.60.
Premium econ at 11000 + 5.60
