Our Verdict
Looks like the purchases need to be made at restaurants. Not sure if you can stack it with the other Chase Pay deal or not.
Hat tip to SD
I got an offer on one of my Freedom cards to tap the app using ChasePay 3x between Mar 1 thru 31 and receive 1500 UR. There is no minimum amount required so I bought a candy on sale at WAG on my first tap.
This offer works just fine IF you place your order IN the app.
The $10 credit actually goes for the 3rd purchase ( at least that’s how it worked for me)
1. cost 5.54 quiznos sandwich ( if you manage to buy in happy hour between 4-5 pm it will be 0.54)
2. cost same as above
3. 10.05 bigger quiznos gyro (minus 10 promo) cost 0.05
Hmm, that’s not how it worked for me.
1. five guys fries + water for < $1 (happy hour promo)
2. five guys little burger for < $1 (some weekend $5 off thing)
3. regular restaurant item for < $2 ($5 happy hour, $5 first visit)
Got the $10 off after the 3rd purchase. I did check before the 3rd visit t make sure the $10 for 3rd use promo was still going.
Is it me or have some restaurants been adding/increasing a “Merchant Fee” to use Chase Pay.
Which is just Insane – and hard to justify – When you can walk into the same restaurants and order take out or take away (for those from across the pond) and then pay with same Chase Credit Card even use the ridiculous QR code and not charged a stupid “Merchant Fee” that’s $1.50-$2.50 or even bypass the Chase Pay app and use the same Chase Card with Samsung/Applr/GPay.
I kinda of understand if one had ordered pickup thru UberEats or Grubhub as the Apps take a cut of the total ticket – when that’s the case I either phone in an order (if it is a busy period) or just order in person and wait. (as the price’s are also higher in app than in store – granted I know some places charge for plastic containers).
It would seem that Chase Pay would be offering the service to restaurants – without the fee – as they have a fraction of the businesses that the big apps have. I doubt I would even use the Chase Pay app to order ahead – without the promo’s.
But the Merchants fee’s basically make the offers more of a wash.
Fee for just Chase Pay or all card transactions?
Fee only applies on some Restaurants in Chase Pay app (proprietary app only works with Chase Personal cards and Debit cards –
Most useful thing is for for NFC equipped Chase ATM that you can access if Debit card is in sock drawer – not sure about at teller window when they want you to insert card – as I rarely have need to interact unless I need counter checks or safety deposit box access ). But the WF version is cleaner the mobile app generates a 1X use 6 or 8 digit pin and then your normal pin. Which I prefer as its not limited to NFC equipped ATMs.
Chase Pay if you order through the Chase Pay app is through a company called OrderAhead (now owned by square who also runs Caviar). They may be taking a portion of the take.
Thanks, Interesting and good to know.
I know that the larger chains seem to eat the merchant fee. Next time I stop in an Independent restaurant (non-franchise) that is offering Chase Pay – I may ask the owner how much of a cut that OrderAhead takes on transactions.
Anyone able to break out the QR code for Chase Pay and NOT get laughed at by the employee at the cash register?
Nope. And when the Level Up camera reader lights up blue for Chase Pay instead of the usual green for Level Up QR barcode transaction, they usually stare in disbelief until I come by the next time and do it again.
I go to Pret a Manger almost every day. Nobody knows what it is or how I pay with it. Its listed in the app. Any idea what I need to tell the cashier?
Pay by scanning the QR code on their scanner. They may have a white cube like camera that says LevelUp. Use that one.
Appears to be renewed for March. Same URL. Just in time to spend the $10 from Feb.
Please give us more happy hours (or better yet ones usable for more than an hour) to stack with this, Chase.
If I have two orders in the month of January, do I just need one more to get the $10 off or do I need to do 3 more
Nada
Chase Pay is great for a bubble tea place near where I love. After you get the $10 you can use it qualify torwards the next 3x promotion and get another $10
Surprised your Local Bubble tea has chase pay! Is it a chain? Do you just ask? Most vendors have no idea what I’m talking about
You can see a map of nearby locations from the Chase Pay app. In my area it’s basically just Potbelly, Starbucks, and Dunn Brothers Coffee.
It’s a chain called Kung Fu tea. I was actually surprised to see it in the Chase Pay app. They also advertise in the store about taking Chase Pay. They run Chase Pay through LevelUp. A lot of LevelUp merchants take Chase Pay. They even let you earn the loyalty (spend $X get $X) in the Chase Pay app as well as LevelUp.
thanks for sharing. I know Kung Fu Tea. There are some in my area as well. Good to know!
I used chase pay 4 times $5+ Per order in Jan but the 10$ credit never showed. It showed up for my friend right after the 3rd order.
