This comes out to a 20% discount in a sense, not great…

25%. You are buying $100 and getting $25 extra. If it was 20%, the coupon would be for $20.

so, I can buy $100 third-party gift cards in store to get the $25 off coupon? or have to buy their own gift cards? wondering whether they carry Amazon gift card

I was just at JCP. The signs looked to me like it is only applicable to JCP gift cards, not third-party. Either way, if you want to go in-store for this deal, wait till the middle of the night if possible (JCP will be open continuously from 2pm Thursday through 10pm Friday night) or you’ll be standing in line for an hour to check out.

My JCP the line was < 5 minutes when I went at 9pm and again when I went at 10pm (I parked in the JCP mall parking but went to other stores in the mall).

When I drove past my JCP again around 9pm, the parking lot still looked surprisingly full, I’d guess two-thirds of the crowd six hours earlier. I guess business is booming here.

Weird, I’m in Minneapolis at a major mall, there were lots of cars in the parking lot, but when I actually walked through JCP there was maybe 2-3 customers in line at each of the registers. Tons more inside the actual mall, but actually shopping JCP was hardly anyone.

My mall was totally shut down all day for Thanksgiving Day, except a handful of the anchor stores with outside entrances, so that probably wasn’t the case here.

Bought this on 11/21 by using Happy card from Kroger (got 10 off grocery + 4X fuels points)

by chance did you do this in store or on line (at jcpenney.com)? I too got a 310 Happy Bride GC from Kroger (failed on the $10 off but did get the 4x points) Then successfully bought a $200 mc/gc at BBY – in store. But then when I tried using the same Happy Bride (with remaining $200+) on-line with JCP, transaction was declined….. 🙁

re. the fail on the “Happy Bride” $10, I’m guessing this was not one of the six select “participating” Happy GC’s in the kroger promo photo…. (By this guess, Kroger Lady apparently was participating, but not Kroger “Bride” ?? go figure) Hadn’t realized it was restricted so….? That can’t be right? Or was it?

re. the fail at JCPenney.com, I did call up the Happy “cardholder services,” and when I informed the representative that I had attempted to use it also for a transaction on-line (at JCP), she informed me that Happy Cards do NOT work at any on-line location. (her words, not mine)

When I read back to her the fine print second sentence on the back of the card, (“on line redemption may not be available for all merchants,” she apologized and still declared that my Happy card will not work at any on-line merchant. She recognized this is a problem, and she agreed (or so it seemed) with my suggestion that Metabank & Happy need to correct this “misinformation.” (her word)

I’m really “un-happy” about this. Yes, I have back up plan for draining the remaining $100 (typo above)…. but this should now go up as a major red flag for the use of “Happy” cards… Don’t worry, “be happy” — and don’t use them on-line — without advance certainty, in written form from the merchant and/or “Happy.”

Stack with the freedom card. Also they do carry some other gift cards so you might be able to buy those as part of the $100 as it doesn’t specify jc penny gc

I am pretty sure they are only talking about JC Penney gift cards.
