[YMMV] AA SimplyMiles: Get 1x Miles On Your Amazon Purchases

The Offer

  • AA SimplyMiles is offering 1x miles on Amazon purchases. Limit of 45 miles per purchase, can be used three times

Our Verdict

Normally portals have restrictions on what categories count, but that doesn’t seem to be the case this time. Thought there was no limit but there is unfortunately.

Does anyone know the expiration for this Amazon SimplyMiles offer?

I had it on 2 accounts, used it twice on 1, but the offer disappeared on both.

Wow, a max bonus of 135 miles. Worth probably less than $3. How generous

AA is doing worse than all the other big airlines. How soon is the next devaluation?

Nothing showing up for me.

@Wayne definitely YMMV. I didn’t get the Amazon offer but P2 got both Amazon and Best Buy.

There’s also a Citi Merchant Offer for Amazon of 3% (and if you are interested in SimplyMiles, it’s highly likely you have some Citi cards as well) but the Citi offer has a limit of $3/order. Not much but it’s an easy stack.

Yeah I saw the 3% deal. It doesn’t really make sense if you have the Amazon Prime VISA which already gives 5% up front (CITI is 1% at purchase, 1% when you pay), and if you choose a delayed shipping date you’ll get 6%. During July Prime week, delayed shipping was 7%.

But Simplymiles doesn’t work with Visa anyway, so if you are interested in getting that deal (and therefore using a Mastercard) then you may as well add the Merchant Offer if you have it.

Ah! That’s good to know. Too bad it can only be used 3 times (max $1, i.e. $33.33 purchase), both Citi and AA.

The only other MC’s I have are AA Aviator, Old Navy and Savor. Everything else is Visa or Amex.

do you think a $34 gift card purchase or GC reload will trigger the AA miles?

Yes it will, all other Amazon deals have. And you are correct, the Citi offer is capped at $1, not $3 as I wrote above. Barely worth it but at least it’s something.

Chuck  William Charles Confirmed. It worked. I recommend doing 3×34. I did it as 3x$33.34 which got me to $100 for the purposes of maximizing CITI’s 3% (I got $1 cash credit for each of the 3 transactions 3 days after they fully posted) but it only got me 99 miles since AA only sees the whole number (33). 3×34 will have you spending $102, but you need to do at least $33.34 to maximize CITI’s 3%.

Offer appears to be targeted / YMMV – nothing in my SimplyMiles account.

So this is a total of 135 points you could possibly earn from this deal? Not even worth the time to link the accts

Plus Loyalty Points and the 20 or 30% bonus if you’ve qualified for that. Not incredible but not nothing.

I disagree. If you have the Citi double cash 3% offer, you won’t lose out on cash back (vs prime Visa) plus you get 100 miles. The Citi offer is 3% up to $1, meaning $33.33. So I wouldn’t do more than that. 100 miles is worth about $1.20-$1.40. An additional 1.2% on top of the 5%.
