In case you missed the earlier news, Wyndham is making a number of changes to the award program. The biggest of those changes is introducing a tiered award system where properties cost 7,500, 15,000 or 30,000 points per night. I had some follow up questions so I reached out to Wyndham’s media team.
- They don’t anticipate a list of properties in different tiers being available before April 3rd
- If you book a property that currently costs 15,000 points per night before April 3rd and it increases in price you’ll keep the same pricing.
- If you book a property that currently costs 15,000 points per night before April 3rd and it decreases in price you’ll receive an automatic refund of 7,500 points (this will be done after the stay is completed)
- If you’re close to 15,000 points and don’t quite have enough for a free night, they are encouraging you to reach out to [email protected] to work something out
If you have any other questions about the changes feel free to leave them in the comments and I’ll reach out to Wyndham again to get them answered.
Just a head’s up – I went to the website to make a booking before the rate changes, and it says that the account sign in and award booking will be down from tonight until tomorrow morning. It doesn’t give an actual time though, so if you are thinking of making an award booking, you should make it ASAP.
I know this isn’t for everyone but I booked the NYC Tryp at Times Square South premium family room with my points for dec. 30- Jan 2. Will probably be the only time I spend New Years in New York but figured why not when I can use my point to bring me and 7 friends. Looks like there is still availability for this if others want to book.
Presents about a $500-$700 value for 15,000 points…….. probably the best I’ve seen in a long time
Count me as one of the bummed ones too. Always loved using this for the Santa Monica pier property. Right on the pier practically. Terrific location and just a solid hotel. With P2, always enjoyed a couple of nights per year there. I’m sure that’ll be 30K points per night moving forward. Assuming an increase here, I’ll definitely be cancelling our cards on renewal.
In related news, LaQuinta rounded my point to the nearest upper 100 and let me transfer all to Wyndham 1:1. Was in chunks of 1000s before.
When you transferred them did you get a new 4 year expiration on the points ? I was wondeing If I could transfer all of my Wyndham to laquinta and back to extend the 4 year expiration date
Does anyone have any idea how far out Wyndham opens up availability? I’m looking to burn 135k for January, but the locations I’m looking at are available in December, but not January yet.
It varies by property because I looked at a few in January and they’re available…
This’ll get me to cancel my Wyndham card next time around. Also, not revealing which properties are increasing is so Wyndham. We were looking at booking the Sedona Rouge for the wife’s birthday, they offer a $503 room that night for 15k, I’m guessing that might be on the list of 30k properties, better to book now I suppose & cancel later of we change our plans.
on the timeshare side – information received today (subject to change) is that only three properties will see an increase to 30k per bedroom per night – which will include Bonnet Creek, Clearwater and Rio Mar.
I figured Bonnet Creek would be one, had my eye on it. Guess I better go ahead and book it for a visit to Universal Orlando.
How does the extra points work?
Platinum used to get 3K yearly but will now recieve 15%
Is it 15% back on redemptions (i doubt it) or per amount spent at Wyndham properties?
And I just paid annual fee renewal for two cards.
What use do you have for two? Any advantage?
We get 15K points a year for renewing
Wyndham card doesn’t even offer an annual FN for the $75 AF. Would have canceled it straight up if wasn’t offered a $75 AF waiver which they gave me last year upon renewal.
You did get 9K annual points plus they waive half of the annual fee.
It gives you 9000 points (6000 for the card, 3000 for Platinum status that comes with the card) per year what was equal to 0.6 free night so far.
And you can buy the other 6k for $78. Approx $150 or less for a night isn’t bad for a few of their properties (Boston Beacon Hill, Sedona, etc.)
The older $69 AF card still gives me and P2 15k each at renewal
All good things must come to an end. I loved Wyndham.
3 nights in Clearwater were great, was looking to do the same for Galveston. Sadly, that property will most likely be 30k.
Wyndham Clearwater left a lot to be desired IMO, I’m sure the Hotel will still be 15 k per night. Pool area is WAY too small
Right on the beach, top 5 most expensive cash property you can book with points, in the middle of everything? I hope so but I really doubt it.
It’s a pretty large pool area in my opinion, movies outside at the pool area with free snacks? It was one of my favorite shortstay locations.
We prefer to stay a few miles down the road at a IHG in Indian Rocks and a Doubletree in North Redington Beach. It’s expensive for sure but not worth it IMO…………I have no idea how you think that pool is large , it’s small for one property let alone 2 properties that must have 500 combined rooms sharing it. It’s also in the shade most of the day.. To each his own I guess. You can book up until April so you should be able to get another stay or 2 in
Don’t forget the hotel will also have parking fees and resort fee charges. I can’t see them charging 30k for a hotel room that is also going to cost you $75 a night. If that’s the case then nobody would ever book a hotel room on points as a condo would cost (30K) the same
Mike: expect that Clearwater will move to 30k points per night. The timeshare side of the property is moving to 30k point per bedroom redemption rate – so expect for consistency purposes that will happen.
Sadly it did move to 30k.
