Air Canada is currently offering a lot of flexibility on all new and existing bookings made through June 30th, 2020 for travel between March 1, 2020 and June 30, 2021 if you booked directly. You can cancel for any reason and either get a travel voucher with no expiry or you can turn your cancelled tickets into Aeroplan miles with an additional 65% bonus, that works out to cost 1.3¢ per mile. Aeroplan recently sold miles for as low as 1¢ per mile, so not as good as that previous offer.

Doesn’t make much sense to me IMO. I would rather get my cash I spent on the ticket back than some airline miles which could dissapear in the event of a Bankruptcy.
And your credit won’t disappear during a bankruptcy? The more helpful calculation is that your credit has a fixed value whereas points can be devalued. Either way, use ‘em as quick as you can if insolvency is your concern.
Yes, but didn’t you see that cash isn’t a choice here? The two choices are a travel voucher with no expiration or miles with deferrable expiration. What’s the big difference between the two in the event of a liquidation? (Far from all bankruptcies are liquidations. Many major US airlines went through bankruptcy already during the past decade or so, and no miles disappeared in most cases.)
We’re talking about “nonrefundable” tickets, which normally can’t be refunded without paying a big cancellation fee. These are alternatives to THAT.
