Our Verdict
Standard offer I think is $100 or $200, we’ve seen as high as $300 in the past. Card isn’t worth keeping long term, but a $500 cash bonus in this climate is very very attractive. BBVA normally always pulls your TransUnion credit report, for most people that’s a good thing as it’s usually the least used bureau for most people. I’ll add this to our list of the best credit card bonuses.
Post history:
- Update: 7/31/20: Some people have received an e-mail offering them an additional 10,000 points when applying for a BBVA card. This can be combined with this $500 bonus for a total of $600. Subject line is ‘10,000 bonus points could be yours’
Got the BBVA Select for the $1,000 bonus back in Dec 2020. Then decided to just keep the card as it became the PNC Cash Rewards as they waived the fee if your renewal date was after the merge to PNC. Haven’t used the card since it’s changed but just received an offer from PNC to use the new card from Jan-Mar for at least $500 in purchases for a $100 statement credit. Not bad.
RIP this useless card. Just got a PNC Cash Rewards card in the mail to replace it. Since I wasn’t using the old BBVA card, I could basically not care less. I guess it’s a slight upgrade as it looks like PNC has some 10% back merchants and offers a regular 4% back on gas, I guess?
Was able to close my account after the annual fee posted. Will report back in a few days to see if the fee is credited back.
They told me to pound sand. Might be worth bumping this post so others can see. William Charles
applied last year, forgot about the annual fee, they put it on this statement, would not waive, even when i close the account, they still dont remove the annual fee..
I tried to close via SM. Here’s my further negative interaction with this company:
Sent message to close the account, BBVA responds 3 days later asking for address verification, sends address, responds 3 days later saying my card has been blocked by fraud activity and to call this number provided. I called the number, and they said the wrong department… will have to call the number at the back of the card tomorrow.
PS: My card has been disabled for months now, not sure if I needed to enable it first? I will let them tell me rather than enabling it and have fraud charges hit again. But seriously… let me just close the account and move on with my life lol
Came here to commiserate. I applied on 7/29 last year, the annual fee appear on 7/9. Called to close the account today and they said the annual fee cannot be refunded.
Did you find out if there were any PC options? Either to no-AF BBVA cards they’re no longer offering new applications for, or to any of the PNC cards?
They don’t allow product change. I closed my card before one year is up.
Thanks. That matches the answer I got via secure message — that my only option is to close. Didn’t give me the date mine would be charged, just “before september” so I guess that’s what I’m doing.
qmc Actually now the BBVA credit cards will switch to PNC ones in early Oct. They will send out letters in late Aug about changes to your card. You can see what options/changes there are before closing.
Did anybody who recently applied get any indication of the bonus in writing?
I have received the bonus

I was going to close my card, then saw this and made a $500 purchase at a home store last week. I see in my rewards the base points, but wondering if anyone knows when the bonus points will come in? I read the TOS but did not see it.
Thanks!
Has anyone here have had their disputes get resolved? Like most others, a portion of mine got refunded but still have some left.
No but I didn’t seem to receive anything negative either.
Old card with $99 in fraud transactions still outstanding. Payment due date was 4/2/21. Nothing happened as of 4/5/21. I just paid of legitimate charges on my new card and will be closing all BBVA accounts I have open in the next few weeks.
Thanks Master Allan, yeah I’ll be doing the same.
My statement for the old credit card came out today, and there is a $19.86 balance due to the
adjustment
transactions done by BBVA. There is a min payment and payment due date. However, no way to pay it in BBVA website and I tried to pay the old credit card using “Bill Pay” from another bank, but the money went to the new replacement. What are we supposed to do now? I don’t want $20 to ruin my credit. What I did was mail them a letter of dispute to create a paper trail. The address for their dispute department is on your statement in the small print. While it’s been about 10 days since mailing and a balance on my “old” card in the amount continues at $98 (fraud charges) due 4/2 I figured it was a step towards a resolution.
Would love to know this as well. This is ridiculous.
Had the same issue, small $18.87 balance on old deactivated card. I called them and they said that I did not have to pay the old card, and then to avoid confusion, they took the old one off my profile.
what is best way of checking app status on this card?
Call
I think calling is the only way.
For people who got an email over the past few months with an offer for 10,000 extra points (targeted to people who had BBVA bank accounts), is that in addition to elevated offers like $750? e.g., if I wait for a targeted offer, can I get $750 + 10,000 points, or was the 10k extra points only given on top of the base $500 offer?
