Ally has launched a pilot referral program. The person being referred receives a $100 bonus and the person referring receives a $50 referral bonus. The person being referred needs to receive a direct deposit within 60 days of sign up to receive the bonus. The standard Ally bonus is 1% of the deposit and that is available for new & existing customers, as that offer works for existing customers you’d be able to do both of these if that offer returns.
You can find a referral link in this dedicated comments thread. Do not share or request referrals in the comments below.
Unable to login to Ally Bank. Anyone else ?
It’s us – we’re having a moment. Our login isn’t working right now. We’ll be quick about a fix, so check back in a bit
Their App is working fine for me.

I did three recurring transfers in September, October and November. No $100 bonus payout yet. Should it have posted by now?
@Matt Juszczak Have you received the bonus yet?
I was told I wasn’t eligible which was BS. Filed a complaint with CFPB and magically received a secure message the next day letting me know they were wrong and that they’ll be posting the bonus by 1/31.
Just wanted to let people here know about my experience with Ally bank. I accidentally locked my account out last Sunday and was told by by cs that sorry there was nothing they could do, that I had to speak to someone in (i think it was) account specialist or something like that and that I had to wait for them to contact me in the next day or two. Sorry, but if you offer 24/7 customer service, there is no reason as far as I’m concerned why you shouldn’t be able to immediately regain access to your account providing security answers as I did.
Anyway, I googled my issue and found many others having the same issue, complaining on reddit etc. Long story short, after 4 phone calls and a total wait time of 2-3hrs, 3 days later i finally got my account access restored. However, that is not acceptable in my opinion as what if i needed immediate access to my account.
Additionally, 2 of the cs agents i spoke with had very thick accents and were difficult for me to understand. I was told their cs is located in north America, however a little research indicated they are outsourcing cs esp during after regular business hours time.
Needles to say, I am transferring 90% of my funds out of Ally to other institutions. I cannot in good faith recommend anyone to use Ally bank. Just my opinion, but I thought it would be helpful to share.
any chance we could open up the referral thread again? Ally just sent me a link and I know many of the ones posted on the thread have already reached the max bonus
They won’t. They would prefer to funnel all referrals to certain people if you haven’t noticed.
The cherry on top is the referrals you use from some of these people’s sites are worse than the standard sign up offer lol
Some people have no problem making money off the naive and uninformed
One of the my referrals didn’t get the bonus despite doing the requirements.
He has sent messages to Ally and now has a ticket and now “investigating” it. They did mention that it looks like he met the requirements and fulfilled it all. But, they gave some extra things saying:
None of those extra “requirements” were listed in the terms even though shouldn’t affect anything. I got the bonus for referring him.
He never got the welcome email from Ally though. Another referral I did who got his bonus already, did receive a welcome email. So wonder if something messed up on their end.
I was a refreree & did not receive the bonus. Spoke with several ally people, and all I got out of it was “There was never such a referral offer.” I may try again.
I do have my welcome email, with the first 2 reqs checked off and also statements showing the monthly transfers, so I should be in a strong position, but I wonder if it’s worth the fight.
In any case, I won’t be dealing with ally in future.
If you have screenshots+emails, file CFPB and/or FDIC/OCC complaints.
Welp, I did try again for some reason. After 2 & 1/2 hours on hold, I got a case number!
I may or may not hear something in 7-10 business days!
Spent some of my hold time assembling my CFPB documentation stack. It is impressive…
that should be an easy fight with the CFPB. My referral didn’t get any email whatsoever. But know he got counted as I got my referral bonus for him.
If I refer others who meet the qualification requirements, which account does Ally deposit the bonus? Currently have a checking and invest account and looking to close one of them to start the churn clock, want to make sure I’m not closing the account the referral bonus would be paid into.
I would check with support. I would assume the checking account. Why, because it’s a “deposit account” and banks like when you spend money?
Or, just wait for an email alerting you that a bonus was paid, and then ask where it went. My P2 has a referral link, and she has gotten the email twice now AFTER the bonus was already paid.
She only has the Savings acct, so there is no question where the deposit would go.
Received bonuses after enrolling and completing requirements on the Invest account all in less than a week. Bonus was deposited into checking account.
Tried opening the account for P2, but it got declined.
I am unable to insert my referral code. Is there are reason comments are closed? thanks
Because people don’t behave and repost their code… so DoC ends up locking the page to avoid the headache. arihalli
The referral thread in the post appears to be closed over a year ago.
When they open referral pages, they are usually closed within a short few day (or sometimes hours).
thanks, both of you, for replying… that seems correct.

Does Ally Self-Directed pull Chex?
In order to receive the $100 referral bonus for the Ally Self-Directed account, do I need to keep $1000 in my Self-Directed account for a certain amount of time? Or does it just have to hit $1000 at one point?
If I want to withdraw the money from a Self-Directed Account to a bank account, is there a charge?
Thanks!
1. No Chex pull for opening the self-directed invest account.
2. The terms state that “Transfer a minimum of $1,000 within 60 days of opening your account. Note: you can make multiple transfers to reach the minimum requirement of $1,000. Your $100 welcome bonus will be deposited within 30 days of your account reaching $1,000.” So you do not need to maintain the $1000 there.
3. No fee for transferring to a bank via ACH.

I actually think you need to keep the $1000 in. Terms:
Transfer a minimum of $1,000 within 60 days of opening your Self-Directed Account. Note: you can make multiple transfers to reach the minimum requirement of $1,000. Market activity that causes your portfolio value to rise above $1,000 will not qualify; also note that instances of market volatility causing your portfolio to drop below $1,000 will not disqualify you (but withdrawals that lower your aggregate deposit amount below $1,000 will). 2. Your $100 Welcome Bonus will be deposited within 30 days of your Self-Directed Account reaching $1,000 from incoming transferred funds. To be paid, make sure you keep your Self-Directed Account open and in Good Standing through the Payout Date.
Ah, I see it now in the Terms & Conditions document, I stand corrected. Before receiving the bonus within 30 days of reaching $1000, you’ll need to maintain the $1000. Theo
