[Expired] Amazon: $99 for Microsoft Office 365 Home 12-month subscription + $50 Amazon.com Gift Card

The Offer

Direct Link to offer (affiliate link)

  • Amazon is selling a Microsoft Office 365 Home | 12-month subscription PC/Mac Download + $50 Amazon.com Gift Card for just $99.99.

The Fine Print

  • Limit 1 per checkout (not sure if you can then checkout a second time with another)
  • Offer ends at midnight PT on 12/4

Our Verdict

Looks like you can get this subscription for 1 person for $69.99 and for 6 people for $99.99. So if you only need it for 1 person, this is a $20 savings; if you need it for 6 people, it’s a full $50 savings due to the $50 gift card bonus.

In the past, readers have said it’s possible to use this to add to an existing subscription. (Apparently, up to 4 years of extension can be done. Beyond that, you can save the code and use it a later date, I suppose.)

Note, some people might prefer buying the download version instead of the subscription version. Do some research to decide which model and version is best for you, I’m honestly a bit confused by all the options.

I think the deal is dead, it’s showing $149 in cart for me

I used to get the Office suite for $10 through work-one time download without a subscription. I don’t want a subscription. What is the cheapest way to get Office? I just need Word, Excel and Powerpoint. I don’t need all the other stuff the subscription offers.

In for 2. Was set to renew in Jan anyway, Microsoft is now showing Jan 2022 renewal date. Did one and the date changed to Jan 2021 and then another and it went Jan 2022. Had seen people on Slickdeals doing it more than once. The subscription is apparently now managed by Amazon so that could get wonky down the road in a couple years I guess but personally I don’t care.

They split the charge by doing $50 for Amazon gift card, $49.99 for Microsoft in case that matters to anyone.

Didn’t realize you could extend subscriptions like this, I’ve obviously been living under a rock lol. Happy for the $100 in Amazon for charges I was already going to make over the next couple years.

FYI, I was able to stack 4 times. After that it returns an error:
We can’t extend your subscription any farther. Please wait 1 year to renew.
Error code: MaxStackingDurationExceeded

The ONLY reason I pay is for the Mailbox storage.

I’m on the fence about adding another year to my subscription now vs. taking a chance on this deal coming up again. My Office subscription is paid up through April 2021 because I took this deal twice this year, but who knows if/when they’ll stop offering it.

DP: Just added this to my existing subscription. My renewal date was 1/1/2020; now it’s 1/1/2021.

Just a PSA to check with your employer, or your public school system, to see if they offer the Microsoft Home Use Program.

My child’s school offers “Office 365 Pro Plus at no charge to all administrators, faculty, staff, and students for use on personal computer equipment. The licensing allows the installation of the software on up to five compatible PC and/or MAC computers. In addition, a simplified version of the software may be installed on up to five tablet/mobile devices. The license will remain active as long as the division maintains this agreement.”

Thanks for pointing this out. Just checked and I’m seeing the personal version for 48.99 ($69.99 normally) and the home version for 69.99 ($99.99 normally). Can use PayPal for additional 5% back with the CF.

Even better, I’ve been using my college version for 10+ years. With the exception of Excel which recently crapped out on me, and I made the switch to the free Libre Office Calc.

Go to portal.office.com. Then use your work email id. If your company has any agreement, then you will receive an email from Microsoft to sign up for the office 365.

Can this be activated at a later date or is it automatically activated at purchase?

Thank you.

just bite the bullet and make the switch to Google Sheets and drop the whole subscription cost drama.

I have to modify huge sheets and it crashed Chrome too many times. Excel is much stabler, has a ton more features and backwards compatibility with older formats. Better export options and integration with QuickBooks as well.

For some people who only require basic worksheet editing, Google Sheets is fine. But it’s not a replacement for everyone. $50 for a year, for the whole family to use MS Office AND get 1TB on OneDrive each, is a great deal.

My wife and I share files with OneDrive, we have a ton of family photos and videos, etc. so she stores all the videos and shares them with me, and I store all the photos and share them with her.
