Amazon is selling Apple AirTags on sale: (affiliate links below)
- Amazon: Apple AirTag 4 Pack for $89.99
- Compare on Apple for $99.
- I see there’s also a seller on eBay selling these for $94.99 with coupon code U5Y4TM7CMGXL4GLX that brings it down to $80.71. Might be able to stack that with a shopping portal as well. (Just note there are no returns if you buy from this seller.)
Over the holiday season we saw even deeper discounts. Some travelers like keeping one with each of their belongings. This deal is especially interesting is if you can stack and additional savings with one of the Amazon shop-with-points deals.
I don’t need a product to find my things because I misplace them within my own vicinity. I need something to track a stolen/lost item like my luggage or car. Also, Airtags being reliant on proximity to an iOS device is not a good selling point when you are in countries with a low market share of iOS devices (i.e. Central America, South America, Africa, Middle East, India, and some European counties).
I think I will buy a GF22 GSM GPS Tracking Device on Amazon. It uses a SIM card (Google Fi data SIM for me) and see if that is my travel solution for stolen or airlines losing my luggage.
A year ago Qatar lost my bag on a return flight from South Africa to the states and they had no idea where my bag was (JoBurg, Doha, Chicago, or somewhere it should never have been). It would have been helpful to know if it was at ORD so I could just go to the airport and find it for myself and force the situation after my flight landed instead of waiting for 3 days for Qatar Airlines to finally contact me and deliver the bag to my hotel in Chicago.
Code doesn’t seem to work for me, seems to be expired already?
Still showing for me, maybe the code is targeted? I’m not sure
Did not realize they upgraded firmware to increase the alarm/sound volume. That to me was weakest part – alarm volume too low. I also realized if i flip the sides (white part out) on keychain that covers one side – you hear it much louder. I used to have Tile – and extra feature tile had – you can press a button on tile that will ring your Iphone (so you can find your phone if you lost it). Tile was not as polished/well built as AirTag. So far I’m happy with Airtag – accidentally came off my keychain last week, and was able to get out of the house, find it it. Dropped it near aparment mailbox, and someone put it right on top of it. I was able to use IPHONE to trace it back.
What is the eBay coupon code?
I’m seeing U5Y4TM7CMGXL4GLX, added now
literally just bought this a few days ago. I guess I gotta buy this again and return it
IT’S WEIRD how my Apple store is always out of the single Airtag.
But the pack of 4 – sonofanon-binary! In stock!
“I see there’s also a seller on eBay …”
One of my cards (can’t remember which now) coded that as a Department Store subject to the 5% rewards.
SmartTags are better. Firsthand experience. Was able to track my delayed baggage over the Atlantic in real time. Tags use someone else’s phone connection to transmit the tag’s location (Apple and Samsung). I guess someone on the plane was using’s the flight’s Wi-Fi on their phone which allowed my tags to transmit their location. I put one in each bag.
Two days before, upon arriving to my destination, I knew that my suitcases were not coming since they were somewhere in Canada, and therefore, I just headed straight to customer service who told me that I should come back a couple of days after to pick them up. The representative was stunned that his system didn’t tell him where the bags where when I was able to pinpoint their location.
No one knows why they went to Canada
Far more people have iphones and Find My than the galaxy line. At least of those that regularly travel.
I’m sorry, these are Samsung SmartTags that you’re referring to? Want to make sure I’m comparing everything correctly.
Is this the best option for Android users? Would really like something similar to what Apple has with turn by turn location, but I’m not sure it exists.
I can’t speak from first hand experience, but my friend had the Samsung SmartTags and said they were absolute garbage, rarely reporting a location and highly inaccurate when they did (with multiple tags). Between that and problems with a Galaxy phone he switched back to iPhone shortly thereafter.
Again, not my experience, but doesn’t sound like they are universally better than AirTags, for my friend they were decidedly not.
Literally all of the personal trackers do what you described in various ways. AirTags will have better coverage and precise direction finding via UW Bluetooth when nearby
So why are SmartTags better?
They’re Smart. Much like Hawkman’s role in the Super Friends, all AirTags can do is fly.
