Our Verdict

This promo is activating for most people, but not everyone. It only works on select items in these categories (Electronics, Cleaning & Essentials, School Supplies, Backpack and accessories, Girl’s clothing, Boy’s clothing) and only on items shipped and sold by Amazon.

As you can see at the above links, this promo includes a wide variety of items which aren’t related to ‘school’. For example, it worked for me on Kleenex tissues and Tide pods. And in the electronics category, it’ll work on things like earphones, printers, some Fire tablets, etc. Oddly, it’s not working on all the items linked on the landing page, and it’s hit-or-miss as to which items this promo will work on.

By the way, those magic erasers are just melamine sponges. They’re much cheaper if you search for that instead.

It will not work for me. I’ve been chatting with help from India and followed all rules. Assuming now that 100,000 customers have already used the promotion

Not all products seem to trigger this, even if they are listed on the sale page. I am debating if I need more crap even at a discount. Already have enough trash bags to last me two+ years.

I have tried dozens of different items from the categories listed under the promotion page. With the exception of Kindle devices and some backpacks, none have triggered the discount. And they are all items shipped and sold by Amazon. I am specifically trying to buy girls clothing – socks. And nothing triggers

I got it to work in conjunction with the $15 off $50 cleaning supplies offer. Here is what I bought:

Glad force flex 13 gal trash bags 90 count – $14.99
Finish All in 1 94 count Powerball Dish Tabs x 2 – $14.35 ea $28.70
Mr Clean Magic Eraser Original 9 count – $6.97
Total: $50.66
-$15.00 Multi-buy discount for cleaning supplies
-$20.00 American Express offer
Total: $15.66 After Discount

Not bad for Supplies I am certainly going to use!! I am also getting $3.00 in digital credits for choosing regular delivery!

I’m a little bit late to the party on this one, but I was able to find some things stacking the $20/$50 promo plus the $10/$40 household items promo. Here is what I bought after a long time of searching for things I actually use. There are not a lot of items that hit both promos, and they don’t make them easy to find!

Finish All in 1 Gelpacs Orange, Dishwasher Detergent Tablets 84 count $12.98
Glad Tall Kitchen Drawstring Trash Bag – 13 Gallon $15.25 x2 (180 bags) = $30.50
Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Original, Cleaning Pads with Durafoam, 9 Count $6.97

Total $50.45
Amex -$20.00
Multibuy Discount -$10.00
-.01 amex MR
Total w/ tax $21.96

I am also getting a $2 digital reward for amazon day delivery. Not bad!

Hope this helps someone 🙂

Wonder if this stacks with the general Amex Shop with points offer.

I don’t know if you have kids or not, but let me just let you know: Kleenex and Tide are 110% ESSENTIAL school items, lol. Maybe the most essential of school items. Kids will come home covered on grass stains (and various other stains…) and are constantly sniffling from something they caught at school. You can never have enough detergent and tissues when school starts back up.

Not only that, but expect teachers to ask parents to donate boxes of tissues (because we don’t spend nearly enough money on education and expect teacher to pay for these things out of their own salaries…). But yeah, Kleenex and Tide are definitely school-related items.

I think Chuck’s point is that those items aren’t exclusive to school age kids.

Lots of people in the comments claiming it does not trigger for items on Amazon’s list… that’s because they don’t understand how the promo works. The items must be sold and shipped by Amazon.com. There are many items on the list that are sold by multiple sellers, and Amazon often selects third party sellers by default if the price is low. So you need to make sure you add the item to the cart with the right seller. There are some items on the list that that only third party sellers (fulfilled by Amazon) sell new, but Amazon Warehouse Deals sells used (returned items). Everything I’ve tested from the list triggers the credit for me as long as you add it from Amazon’s own seller profile and the total is at least $50.
