Amazon is sending out $30 gift cards to of their Visa cardholders for a coupon code which didn’t work properly.
Amazon had a special offer for cardholders to get $30 off $150 on Prime Day. The offer wasn’t working the last half of the day, probably unintentionally, to the frustration of many.
To rectify this, Amazon has automatically loaded a $30 gift card balance to the accounts of effected cardholders. Some reports indicate that even those who didn’t make $150 purchase, but attempted to do so, also got the $30 credit. Others indicate that only those who actually ordered on Prime Day got the $30 gift card.

I’m not sure if Amazon did this for legal reasons or customer satisfaction reasons; more likely the latter. In any case, most other companies drag their feet and eventually cave. Amazon does customer service right.
If you also had this problem with the $30 promo code not working for you, try chatting with Amazon and requesting compensation; they might be able to issue the Amazon credit manually.
Due to personal configuration, inscription, or design on these products, the third-party seller is not required to accept returns or exchanges unless the products are damaged or defective upon arrival. We designed Amazon Elements to exceed your expectations, and we’re proud to stand behind every product. If you’re not completely satisfied, we’ll give you a full refund up to 365 days after you receive the product.
I made a purchase over $150.00 late in the day and the code would not work. Did not contact them and this just showed up in my account.
It was annoying while checking out, kept thinking it was somehow a user error 😛
Little frustrating – I tried to apply the code, but no dice. And I was certain to include $150+ of items shipped/sold by Amazon, select my Amazon Visa, and apply the code – to no avail. So I decided not to move forward with the purchase.
However, I did NOT receive an email or credit, and after chatting with a CSR this afternoon, explaining the situation, and providing a screenshot of the credit email ‘from a friend’, they still told me tough luck.
“This was a limited time offer, while supplies lasted. The offer has ended now, because Amazon reserves the right to modify or cancel the offer at any time. Based on the amount of customers that took advantage of it have we have decided to end the promotion before the time. However you can be sure that we still have a lot of promotions on our website and lighting deals that you can surely take advantage of it.”
I got the $30. I wouldn’t have even realized if I hadn’t read it here and then went and checked. I definitely didn’t contact Amazon about it but I did try to use the code and figured what I was buying didn’t qualify (it wasn’t sold by Amazon – had my eye on a used cell phone). I ended up not buying it. I appreciate the extra $30 though.
I got the $30, it would be nice if eBay would implement a payment/gift card system like Amazon’s. Load the codes one time and pay from your balance. Perfect!
I’ve suggested this to eBay everytime I have to call them, if everyone did maybe they would take more notice.
I tried using the code and happily got the credit. I did not contact Amazon support about it. Was a pleasant surprise
I loaded up my cart with $165.00, selected Amazon VISA payment and entered the code about 5:00 PM. I tried several times and always got the “code expired” message, so I quit without completing the order. Next day I got a $30 gift card from Amazon. I’ll use it in January when the 5% Discover It cashback offer has expired.
customer rep informed that these are sent to people who contacted Amazon about Visa promo issues
I have and regularly use an Amazon visa card but did not attempt to participate in the Amazon prime day event. No e-mail or credit to my Amazon account in response to this glitch. Too bad. I would have happily used the $30 for some upcoming big purchases.
I got the email and gift card.
Data point: I bought various things during the day but didn’t reach the $150, I also hesitated if ordering one more thing just past midnight using the code and got a “Promo code expired error” so I didn’t order.
