Amazon Prime Cardholders: Get $50 When Referring A Friend To Amazon Visa (Up To $500)

The Offer

Direct Link to offer (non-affiliate) – no referral sharing in the comments

  • Amazon Prime members who are Amazon Visa cardholders can refer a friend to sign up for the Amazon Visa card and get $50 when their friend is approved. Max $500 per calendar year (10 referrals).

Your friend gets the regular signup bonus on the card – at time of this writing the offer is for the new member to get an instant $200 Amazon gift card credit.

The Fine Print

  • By sending this invitation, you agree that you will personally send the messages and you will not use bots or similar automated processes to send messages by mass distribution.
  • Earn up to $500 in Amazon Gift Cards: You can receive a $50 Amazon Gift Card for each friend you refer through this Refer-A-Friend offer who is approved for the card. Maximum bonus accumulation for this offer is $500 in Amazon Gift Card value in a calendar year. You may earn bonus Amazon Gift Cards up to the stated maximum for each offer, however, please note that if you take advantage of multiple opportunities within one calendar year the maximum value of bonus Amazon Gift Cards that can be awarded from all referral offers is $500 per calendar year. In the event the bonus Amazon Gift Cards you earn from all referral offers exceeds the $500 per calendar year limit, you may be awarded a partial amount to keep your total bonus at the total value of $500. For example, if you have already accumulated $470 in Amazon Gift Cards from refer-a-friend offers that calendar year and the maximum is $500 in Amazon Gift Cards per calendar year then the next award will be a $30 Amazon Gift Card even if the offer states $50 Amazon Gift Card. The value of this offer or program may result in miscellaneous income received from Chase and Chase may be required to send you, and file with the IRS, a Form 1099-MISC (Miscellaneous Information) or Form 1042-S (Foreign Person’s U.S. Source Income Subject to Withholding) for the year in which you participate and are awarded the benefits of the offer/program. You are responsible for any tax liability related to participating in the offer/program. Please consult your own tax advisor if you have any questions about how this could affect your taxes. This offer is subject to change and may be cancelled at any time without notice. To be eligible for this bonus offer, your Amazon Visa credit card account must be open and not in default at the time of fulfillment. Upon the new cardmember’s approval for the Amazon Visa, the $50 Amazon Gift Card will be loaded into your Amazon.com account.
  • Due to the confidential nature of the credit approval process, neither Amazon nor Chase can disclose information on who has applied, nor will you be notified whether Chase approves or declines any application(s) from the individual(s) you refer.
  • Chase employees are not eligible to refer friends for this promotional offer.
  • Amazon, the Amazon.com logo, the smile logo, and all related logos are trademarks of Amazon.com, Inc. or its affiliates.

Our Verdict

This is a nice way to sweeten the $200 bonus by getting your friend $50 as well, all with no spend requirement. Note, only the main Prime member can refer for this bonus, secondary Prime members don’t have the offer.

No referral sharing in the comments  – since it’s the same as the public bonus I’m not sure it’s worth making a referral thread, and hopefully everyone can find a friend and get them the extra $50.

Ridiculous. So my sister’s credit was frozen and she wanted the Amazon card. So, she thawed it on one credit bureau but didn’t realize she had frozen it on both (she didn’t think she had an account with Experian, only TU). When she went to apply for the card last Friday (Jul 21) the application system said that she needed to wait for a decision, to which Amazon chat support said not to worry, that she’d get approved in time (she has an 800+ credit score). She learned that the other bureau from was frozen from AMEX (the only CC company that identified this frozen credit issue; Chase and CapitalOne said nothing of the sort, couldn’t identify the problem) when she went to apply for the AMEX Green card. On Monday Jul 24 she received the $200 Amazon signup bonus but as of today (Jul 27) I have not received the $50 referral gift card credit. Every Amazon phone rep I speak to has no idea about the referral program (Pro tip: for credit card issues, just call the Amazon MyRewardsCard number on the back of the card, 1-888-283-1190. Don’t go through Amazon chat support. You will end up wasting time explaining your issues and being requested to receive a phone call from Amazon MyRewardsCard phone support). One girl said it is a Chase issue, to which Chase said no, it is an Amazon thing. Finally, one girl said I will have to wait up to 8 weeks, per the terms of the refer-a-friend program (that she sees on her end). So…I guess I will mark in my calendar to call back on August 18 (!!!). Sigh.

Is this only for Prime members? I don’t have Prime but the ‘Refer a friend’ section still shows up on my Amazon Visa cardholder page. Problem is that I got the error message “only the primary account holder can make referrals” even though I’m the primary account holder.

Only card holders can refer. You don’t have the prime visa card so you are not a primary account holder

I have a non-Prime Amazon Visa card. The error message doesn’t say I need to be a Prime member, but instead states that I’m not the primary account holder, which isn’t true. Apparently I’m not the only one with this issue, so I wonder if this is a bug in the system. The terms and conditions also don’t mention Prime at all so I don’t know why DOC says this is a Prime exclusive deal.

From my understanding, you need to be a prime member with a prime Visa card for this offer. I am a prime member and the primary card holder of the prime visa so the referral link shows up. P2 is Prime but an authorized user to my prime visa and is getting the same message as you, not the primary account holder and no referral link.

Can you refer someone who is a prime member during the time of the $200 signup offer and make it a $250 deal? $50 for the referrer and $200 for the referee?

Yes, I did it yesterday. Also the $50 referral bonus almost credited to me immediately after my friend got approved.

This may be a stupid question, but how to do we generate the referral link? All I get is:
“Thanks for your interest in referring a friend. However, only the primary account holder can make referrals. “

If your card/account is eligible then you’ll see the referral link on that page — if the card is linked to another Amazon account then check with that account

Weird. I am the primary account holder and the card is issued in my name. Regardless no luck on any other accounts I’m associated with.

I have this exact same issue. Contacted both Amazon and Chase and they pointed to each other. I do have an authorized user on my card, so I don’t know if that is the problem.
