- Amazon is allowing you to request an invite to purchase a Amazon Fire TV 50″ Omni Series 4K UHD for $149.99
Our Verdict
Great deal if you actually get the invite, might as well request one. This is part of big deal days. Plus, you’ll get 10% back with the Amazon Prime credit card.
I prefer to have 1 nice TV with a good Audio system than 3 TV (like average Americans )…
Anyway Amazon does support bad quality product with their algorithm system (that privileges quantity iver quality) so I boycott them and prefer to buy directly to the manufactory or the seller.
(I WAS A SELLER in Fr and USA si I know what iam talking about, I guess amazon makes more money over fees charged to sellers than to customers directly)…
You get what you pay for.
I’m not going to support this kind of invite only thing. I wasn’t a fan of Newegg’s lottery system either. But this is worse. These prime “deals” are supposed to reward the prime members that pay a good deal of money for an ever diminishing value of crap otherwise known as “Amazon Prime.”
If you need a 50 incher that bad then good luck. I’ll wait for about 2 weeks before black friday when walmart usually has 50-55 inch TCL Roku tvs on sale for about $200. I have a few and they’ve been very good for me for the most part.
These ones are 4k; the cheapest 4k has been a 43″ at BestBuy at $149 so far (currently $169), plus the $99 invite at Amazon for their own brand.
TBH, the only reason I see these so cheap is probably because of the subsidies coming from the Fire TV integration. People have noted that you can’t even change the input to HDMI without having to go through Fire TV, e.g., they’re basically the ad-supported version.
4k 50″ is unlikely to go for 150 at Walmart just yet. They’re probably not even going to give everyone this invite, either.
Hi. The Walmart ones, 50-55 inch TCL Rokus are 4k too. Here’s my purchase history:
November 11, 2020, TCL 55″ Roku smart tv model 55s20 $148 (this one was a bit annoying because they only “loaded” so much stock online every 30 minutes but after a round or two was able to buy.
November 3, 2021, TCL 55″ Roku smart tv model 55S21 $228 (this was very easy to buy and I got two of them that day. It’s basically the same as the prior year model but maybe a hair zippier)
I skipped 2022 because I didn’t need one but did get a roku sound bar for a 1080p plasma tv that I still love watching things on.
I imagine early November Walmart will have similar TV deals but at what price I don’t know. As you can see there is a price increase trend, which may have been from those chip shortage issues.
Interesting, perhaps they were simply getting rid of the old model in 2020, hence why you got it so cheap?
Chip shortage was supposed to have made everything way more expensive, it was almost impossible to buy cheap computer monitors in Fall 2020, so, I’m surprised to learn you got a 4k 55″ at $148; maybe you just got lucky?
BTW, I wasn’t invited to this 50″ 4k @ 149 — not much surprised after the 43″ 4k @ 99 was not given, either. TBH, I’d rather get the 43″ 4k, as I intend to use this as a computer monitor, and 4k gets too grainy at 50″ or 55″. At 43″, it’s like 4x of 21.5″ 1080p monitors all glued together, so, it’s pretty good if you don’t care about the pixels being on the sharper side. (I prefer turning off the anti-aliasing.)
do not let this thing connect to the internet
like all amazon products ( and roku products) these things are constantly calling home to the mothership with details on every movement you make with the remote, what you click on, what you watch, when your tv is on etc
you must install pi-hole and ideally sideload an app like NetGuard (if it’s running android) to suppress the data mining.
This tv, like most ad ridden hardware, is subsidized to learn about your life as a spy device in your home. For reference, Amazon’s advertising division is the fast growing part of their business and one of the most profitable.
Ok cool.
Are you taking those same paranoid steps with the phone in your pocket? Because that is ground zero for all the advertising entering your life. Your Smart TV is but a bit player upon this stage.
I do, and I imagine a lot of others do as well. The frusturating part with the TV is that it is harder to neuter its ability to do so
@danny. It’s not being paranoid, it is facts. And their are “degoogled” phones you can get. You will lose some nice legit things if the phones can’t access your location etc. but they do exist.
Here’s a real case scenario. Let’s say Mr. or Mrs. Danny ends up dead. The lazy psychopathic cops who don’t want to properly investigate turn their focus on you as the killer. Why? Because according to law enforcement statistics always point to the spouse as the killer. Next thing you know the police use the back door program that Amazon profits from (this is true, look up the ring video cam products) and low and behold there’s a recording of a fight on amazon servers that you and your spouse had. It’s a normal fight that any spouses could have but nonetheless, the police will now use it against you. Hopefully you didn’t get caught saying anything along the lines of sweetheart you make me so mad that sometimes I could just kill you…because now you’re screwed. It doesn’t take much to turn seemingly innocent things into “evidence” and remember juries are made up of stupid people like you and me and they may just believe you murdered your spouse.
Kiss your ass goodbye. And yes, I have caught “Alexa” listening in on me when I did not use the trigger word. She also sometimes will bore me with additional nonsense after I engage her, waiting for a response from me, thereby keeping the recording of sound inside my home on and recording to the amazon servers.
So I don’t think he’s being paranoid. These are legitimate concerns, especially when so many scenarios haven’t been played out in court. Regarding phones, we know that you should use a pin and not biometrics because some sh%thead judge made up that cops can force you too look at or put your finger on a phone to unlock it…they cannot make you tell them the pin though.
Is it possible to completely remove the ability for this TV to show Amazon’s stuff? Like using it with HDMI cable without ever going into their “main menu”?
Not that I know of, but you can install a launcher that overlays the Amazon interface. You can set it up to show just certain aps, no ads. It’s very easy to do. Lots of tutorials out there.
Setup nextdns.io and probably block all Amazon domains
I would like to know it too. i dont ever use the tvs apps
I know you can for the Toshiba FireTV edition. I have one and use it with the Apple TV and never let the TV itself connect to the internet. I was watching an unboxing/ setup video for this TV and it seems like you can “skip for now” the login options etc: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OROlnq0Av4
The last one was a flop, the best deal right now is a 43″ UHD from BestBuy, back to $169. 50″ at this resolution is meh.
In five years I will be able to get a TV at the dollar store and a house will be 1.9 billion dollars.
LOL, that’s hilarious but so true…except instead of the dollar store really being $1.25 it will be $1.75 per item.
Pay $150 for Amazon to serve you ads. No thanks.
Reserved for prime members.
By now every American already has at least 3-4 TVs in the house. Even poor people. How many more is needed.
Just one more.
More like 2 for most. Still, more than what’s necessary. I’m sure this TV’s mic is always on.
Easy way for paupers to feel rich, while cost of shit ya need hits the fan
