Looks like the Deluxe (CD/Desktop, NOT online) is sufficient for regular stuff like W2 and stock investments. You’d only need the Premier option for stocks if you choose “online” (as opposed to CD/Desktop).

Kinda feel like it’s confused like that on purpose..

Some history of this issue:
In 2015 (for the 2014 tax year) the ability to do investment sales and rental property income was dropped from TurboTax Deluxe (both online and desktop versions). There was a big outcry from longtime desktop Deluxe users who were forced to upgrade to Premier or higher. Intuit responded by offering $25 refunds to those who had to upgrade. The following year investment sales and rental property income were added back to the desktop version of Deluxe.

Are you saying Deluxe includes Schedule E? I have been using premier forever with the assumption that Deluxe doesn’t do rental property incomes.

Yes, the desktop version of Deluxe includes Schedule E. Premier desktop may give you more guidance; but Deluxe desktop will do the job, especially since you’re experienced.

It’s too late… I ordered Premier before reading your posting. I think I could save $15 next year on, though. Thanks a lot for that!
One question, please! What if we sold a home this year? Would Deluxe be still sufficient?

Deluxe desktop will handle sale of a home.

Assuming this is for Turbotax ’21 and not ’20 (as it says a couple of lines below “The Offer”)

I am a home owner, with a small investment portfolio (mostly mutual funds). Should I use “Premier” or “Home & Business”?

Sue

Premier is more than enough. In fact people on Slickdeals forum mention even Deluxe (CD version) will handle most stock/mutual fund investments without issues. But Premier is supposed to have more walk-through tips. Personally I’ve always used Premier for investments without issues. Home & Business is most likely overkill unless you have a business to write off related expenses.

Thanks a lot for your clarification as well as sharing your own experience! I should go for Premier now.
That is, I had used Home & Business myself since I had a little business until last year. So I wanted to find a right version for my new situation.

Good for you! What about investing, may I ask?

You only need Deluxe. Unlike the online version, the desktop version can deal with *everything*, if your investments come with a 1099. It will ask you to upgrade to a more expensive version, but you can ignore that (unless you don’t want their extra “help” that IMO just confuse everyone…)

Stupid question. I’ve always used the online version of TurboTax. If I purchase this, will my previous years info still get transferred over? Thanks!

So it’s not letting me buy this. No matter what CCID I enter it says the card doesn’t match. But I can buy anything else on Amazon no problem. Strange..

FYI, the DOJ antitrust settlement for TurboTax to divest its 100% free tax software to Square, Inc. will be available starting in January 2022. https://taxeshelp.cash.app/s/article/How-to-use-Cash-App-Taxes

I bought the deluxe + state. Although the price says $39.99 I was only charged $29.98 with a $0.01 “discount” applied. Looks like the $10 GC automatically applied?

You should see they list sending the Amazon $10 gift card as a separate delivery (which is charged as $10). GC should not be automatically applied.

Check your credit card. The invoice may say $29.98 but on your credit card you will see 2 transactions (1 for $29.98 and 1 for $10.00). there is no free lunch.

Remember that fuck TurboTax.
With as much as this deal is “good”, FreetaxUSA is offering FREE Federal, and $15 state, beats any of these offers and you won’t be supporting a cunt company like intuit.

The IRS already knows how much you make in most circumstances. There’d really be no reason to file a return unless you were going to dispute this amount. That’s how it works in the rest of the developed world. Except that the tax software/preparation industry has a very effective lobby in Washington who wail that such an IRS product would “put them out of business.”

So as usual, the US does everything ass-backward and thinks that’s “normal.”

Why doesn’t Amazon give you the option of having the GC delivered digitally? Mine is coming in the mail.

Just a heads up that no-rush digital credits won’t work with the $10 bonus gift card version, so for those with a large stack of digital credits, it might be worth buying the software-only version instead and forgoing the $10 gift card.

Yeah, no using an Amazon gift card when there’s an Amazon gift card in the bundle, unfortunately.

You can, I did this last month. Might of been slightly more. But anyways.

When you place your order. You can Modify the payment immediately after the order is placed. Go back into the order and use a Giftcard balance as a revised payment.

It worked for me a month ago.

I just tried this, but it doesn’t seem to let me change payment method for the TurboTax download. Maybe it works for the CD if you do it before the CD ships, but the download “ships” immediately.

(For the $10 GC, it does show a Change Payment Method button, but doesn’t let me use an Amazon GC to pay for the GC.)
