AMC has sent out an e-mail to AMC Stubs Premiere members stating that they will begin reopening locations in the U.S. on August 20 and hope to have all locations opened by September 3, 2020. They have also announced that:
- Premiere membership extended by eight months
- AMC Stubs points and rewards (including birthday rewards) that were due to expired when AMC was closed will be extended until October 31, 2020
- $5 in bonus bucks to use by October 31, 2020
- AMC Safe & Clean measures (e.g running at 30% capacity)
Personally I won’t be going to see any movies in person anytime soon.
I’m certain that the seats will be cleaner than before.
I might entertain seeing a 9pm showing on a Tuesday night or something when I think it might be completely empty… but I would be hesitant with eating and drinking. Staff touch the exterior of cups, which you touch, and then you eat popcorn with your hands. You touch seats, door handles, everything. It’s always good to avoid touching your face or near it and especially right now, but even if you do eat out you normally aren’t eating a lot of foods with your bare hands. Maybe the risk is low, but to me this would be much higher than say a trip to a grocery store, etc. However… I might debate about using the rewards to swing by and get a drink and popcorn for free to have a movie night at home… though I still would be worried a little about the popcorn being stored in open air style and held way below food safety temps… Wonder how far out they’ll start listing movies and release dates. Maybe in late October I can use those cash rewards to purchase a ticket for the December time frame or something. I do miss movies, used to go weekly and for years and years was a MoviePass member that saw 100+ a year… they’re probably what I miss most lately.
It’d be nice if they would extend them past October. Mine didn’t even hit until May and theatres where I am won’t be opening any time soon. I didn’t get an email either which to me means they have no idea when they’ll open. Nice to see they are extending stubbs. I’ve got free stuff from coke and plenty of gc but I’m not rushing out to the movies once they do open. I generally go Sat am but I think once people here can finally go again a lot will because they are tired of not being able to do stuff.
How are they planning to reopen when there are closure orders in place, as in New York?
They’re reopening locations in most of the country, but New York City locations will not reopen until local restrictions are lifted.
I still have 9 tickets – 6 drink coupon – 4 popcorn coupons from the coke rewards promo from last year. Coke sent out the email that amc is extending the expiration dates on the popcorn and drink coupons to dec 31 2020. Glad to see them open the doors so i can use up these darn coupons!!
Absolutely right, Wont be going either, Not worth the risk until a vaccine is there. I hope TENET is pushed out
I’m a bit sad Tenet is scheduled for August since they’re totally not being considerate of the people who are more cautious
Raise your hand if you want to get Covid-19?
Not too keen on returning to the theatre myself, but I do appreciate the extending of benefits. Most companies have been great about realizing that services we paid for were unusable during that time. Well, except for Amazon where 2 day shipping turned into 5-7 day shipping for Prime members. Still, they were a lifesaver for many.
It’d be nice if Amzn extended Prime membership to compensate for the extra delays, but who am I kidding.. I’m just daydreaming.
All locations open by Sept 3… in the middle of pandemic… great idea.
Also AMC will be charging 15 cents on 8/20 for theaters reopening
