Our Verdict
Works out to be extra 2.5x miles per $1 spent if you spend exactly $200. Not exactly the most enticing bonus, I’d also recommend you use cashbackmonitor to compare this to other portals to ensure you’re getting a good deal. United’s shopping portal is also offering the same deal.
I’ve been trying for a year to use my 15000 American Airlines miles on a one-way flight and I fly like 10 times a year and every single time I’ve looked up American’s miles flight availability there is no mile saaver availability. The lack of American frequent flyer flights is well-documented on this site. American miles IMO are worthless. YMMV?
no dude. u need to up ur game. what u say is 100% true. but that just means u need to try harder and get more creative and be more flexible. its just like MS. n00bs cant handle no PO MO but the pros are doing just fine on private forums. meaning, if u wanna use 150k then look at various ways someone “without a life” can use it and apply ur own restrictions to that subset of opportunities.
I can’t quite understand Ninja’s street language though I expect we say the same thing. Yes, the mile saaver availability is crummy but if you are flexible there are some winning opportunities out there. Holidays 2016, wife & I flew to FLL first class and business to Santiago. On new years day 2018 planned to book mile saaver for both of us later this year to Japan connecting through DFW from DEN. I didn’t get around to it and on 1/2/18 AA opened up more award routes. GREAT – it’s DEN->LAX,first / LAX->NRT business now. Two business class flights for the two of us, booked with points, that land on other continents is definitely not worthless. You just have to keep checking weekly for availability and try different routes, maybe a southwest flight to another airport that is along the way. I’m picking up this bonus for adding to my 80k AA miles because I have the spend anyway.
