American Express has added ‘family’ language to their Everyday card, but not to their Everyday Preferred card. If you already got the bonus on the Everyday card, you can still get the bonus on the Everyday Preferred card, but if you already had the Everyday Preferred card, you can no longer get the bonus for signing up to the Everyday card.
You may not be eligible to receive the welcome offer, intro APRs, and intro plan fees if you have or have had this Card, the Amex EveryDay® Preferred Credit Card or previous versions of these Cards. You also may not be eligible to receive the welcome offer, intro APRs, and intro plan fees based on various factors, such as your history with credit card balance transfers, your history as an American Express Card Member, the number of credit cards that you have opened and closed and other factors. If you are not eligible for the welcome offer, intro APRs, and intro plan fees we will notify you prior to processing your application so you have the option to withdraw your application.
We’ve recently seen Amex add similar family language to the Blue Cash card, the Gold card, and Delta card. They’ve also recently combined the various versions of the Platinum card into one family as well .
Hat tip to Award Wallet
I’ve had this card for a while as a keeper card to keep my membership rewards account active. It’s a solid card, especially as a starter card from American Express. You can upgrade it to the Everyday preferred if you like, or use it as a starter card to build your credit. $0 AF and access to Amex membership rewards and customer service. Pay your bill in full and on time each month!
Use my referral link for the Amex Everyday for 10,000 membership rewards points after spending $2,000 in the first 6 months: https://americanexpress.com/en-us/referral/all-cards?ref=MICHAJmPKk&xl=cp19
I have taken a break from Annual Fees for right now. Therefore, this card is helpful for me!
This card needs a refresh
Your not kidding. I had to open a Blue Business Plus as a catch all card as a sole prop at 2x upto $50k since the mulitpliers on the Everyday suck and the Everyday Preferred. I already get the 2x on BBP on everything and not just gas compared to the Preferred. The 1x more at 3x on groceries is not worth the $95 fee. The Preferred has no credits either to offset the fee, where as the Blue Cash Everyday and the Blue Cash Preferred have at least 2 credits especially with the Blue Cash Preferred having a $95 annual fee also. The one good thing the Everyday Preferred has going for it as a no annual fee downgrade path. I have the no fee Everyday and a barely use it. I put a small purchase every few months to keep it active since it was the first CREDIT card I opened with Amex on Feb 20, 2022 and 6 days prior opened my first ever card and charge card with them in the Amex Green on Feb 14, 2022.
Amex doing everything except actually refreshing the EveryDay/EveryDay Preferred cards.
I’ve got one and have done the upgrade/downgrade dance, but it gets so little use since they haven’t touched it since 2014, only removed benefits. It’s now in that weird spot that I’m keeping it for history/utilization padding, but it rarely gets used.
This doesn’t apply to upgrades. I once got an points upgrade offer from Everyday to Everyday Preferred, took it, kept the card for 2 years, then downgraded back to Everyday, and now just two or three years later, they’re offering me another upgrade offer from Everyday to Everyday Preferred with some bonus points.
For the record, I’ve had the Everyday card since before it existed. Ie, a while after Everyday came into existence, my original Amex Blue card was covered to Everyday.
… don’t give them ideas
Up Next: You may not be eligible to receive the welcome offer if you are currently thinking or have ever thought about getting an American Express Card.
Is there a term for per-emptive clawbacks of Rewards Points before applying?
Any lifetime language? What if I haven’t thought about getting one for > 7 years?
It’s crazy cause back in 2016 when I first became a member, there was no such thing as a popup jail. You’ll receive the bonus as long as you meet the conditions of the spends and approve for the card, just like most card issuers but now… they do this popup jail and it’s so random cause now we’re playing with us where we have to figure out their algorithm on getting the bonus. It sucks but at least Capital One actually let’s you know that you won’t get a bonus if you have a thick profile.
I was lucky to hit AMEX hard back then at a very high velocity. I had a good MS routine and got the bonus for every personal and business card they offered except for maybe a couple of them. Then I got greedy with self referrals and got shut down.
Took me “years” to get another cc bonus. I quit applying. FINALLY got 2 business bonuses through Amazon. Probably it for a long time.
Good thing I already got the SUB and upgrade bonus (UGB acronym?) for this family.
Hello. I have the every day card. Does that mean I can get the every day preferred card and get the sign up bonus while holding the every day card?
In theory yes. But you could still get pop up just cause Amex doesn’t like you
Thank you 👍
Yes
