Our Verdict
Previous best bonus was $300, but that didn’t require the Amazon spend (there was also the home furnishing offer that was up to $500). This does require $1,000 in Amazon spend which could be difficult for some people, but if you can do that then this is a good deal (purchasing gift cards should work fine). We will be adding this to our list of the best credit card bonuses.
Hat tip to US Credit Card Guide
How fast does BCP SUB statement credit post after meeting MSR?
Never mind. 3 days.
So, it appears that the $3,000 spend to get the sign-up bonus is only on the primary cardholder’s card and not on any charges made by the AU. Is that correct? The Amazon discount is for the entire account, so all cardholders.
Is it normal for them to drop the referral bonus after the first use, or did I just get lucky and use it before it dropped? I referred my wife at $125 on Sunday (and got credited already) but now it’s only $75 and that is what my wife has on her new card.
Just discovered that I had maxed out my $6k in grocery purchases this year, (sadly, after I bought $200 in gift cards at Acme today) so I referred my wife, who got approved. I had a $125 referral bonus and she will get $200 on the new card, plus the Amazon bonus.
I did not request a second card in my name (yet) since I was the referring person. Will they care? I’m guessing not.
Update – turns out the new card bonus was only $150 not $200, but still $275 combined with the referral bonus. Ordered myself an AU card since otherwise I would not be able to use it to buy gift cards since they look at the card and driver’s license when purchasing.
Until the new card arrives, I’ll use my Verizon Visa card which pays 4% on groceries.
Oddly, I noticed that the AMEX site says that my wife has 99 offers to load to the new card, even though I had loaded all available offers to her existing cards. Sadly, there are no offers that I want to double-dip on at the moment. Also not sure that I’ll actually be able to load them to a second card.
Referral bonus this spring was better. $300 bonus + $200 statement credit ( Lowes) + Money for referrer.
Can existing BCE users apply for this through incognito? Without going through the upgrade path but a new card.
Yes, will count as new card though
Of course, if you don’t get the popup and Amex approves you
I wish Amex was generous with upgrades too. I’ve had the same $75 after $1000 spend upgrade offer for six months now, and the offer isn’t even enough to pay off the annual fee.
Hang in there I waited a long time too but eventually got one of the “good” offers which I accepted. Just be sure once you upgrade to keep that account open for at least a year before you downgrade. You may actually have to pay a small prorated amount of the subsequent year’s annual fee but it’s more than worth it.
Fine print has this “Excludes purchases of Amazon.com and third-party gift cards, as well as corporate gift card and custom-designed gift card purchases.”
Don’t think this is usually enforced but it’s easy enough to test on a small card.
Pardon my not-very-related question: I had a BCE, upgraded to BCF, downgraded back to BCE, then upgraded (if you want to call it that) to Magnet. I now have another upgrade offer to BCF (AF waived for the first year and $150 with $1000 spend).
Am I likely to be denied the bonus for this upgrade because I took advantage of a similar upgrade offer in the past?
read the terms of your offer. another person can’t really answer this question, as some offers have lifetime language and some do not
*”likely”
I’m just looking for other people’s experiences.
Staradmiral is clearly asking you if have NLL on your terms or not, because that’s what it depends on
I thought you left.
This is only showing $350 and not $400 for me.
Same for me, but in Incognito mode it shows the $400
Ditto. Only $350 clicking the link. $350 again using Firefox incognito. Then $400 with Google Chrome incognito. But got the bonus popup as expected. I’m going through a “bonus timeout.”
