American Express closed all Centurion Lounges indefinitely on March 21st, 2020 due to COVID-19. American Express had released opening dates for six new lounges in late 2019 for 2020 opening dates. We are still waiting for Denver, London Heathrow and New York JFK to open, these opening dates have now been delayed.
- London Heathrow was due to open in the first half of 2020, will now open in the second half of 2020
- New York JFK was due to open in the first half of 2020, will now open in the second half of 2020
- Denver was due to open ‘sometime in 2020’, will now open in the second half of 2020
These delays probably don’t matter much with all of the lounges being currently closed. American Express is also not known for opening these lounges on time even when there isn’t a pandemic occurring so this is hardly surprising. American Express also recently announced that the Las Vegas Centurion lounge would be receiving a revamp.

We were due for another Amex claw back, better the opening date than some other benefit.
I’m done waiting for the DIA Centurion lounge unless AmEx gives me some generous retention offer I don’t think it’s worth renewing my amex Platinum this year..
Right? My home airport, but my Plat is kinda unnecessary alongside my CSR otherwise. It’s why I called retention last year and got a nice offer – called again this year, asked why I bothered renewing for a lounge that never materialized, and they couldn’t offer me another bonus. (Cancelled and picked up the Schwab… but will go through the same song and dance next year I’m sure).
Same here. My AF just hit too. Any good ways left to take advantage of the $200 airline credit? United lounge passes? SW GC?
