American Express Delta Gold – 70,000 Miles + $200 Statement Credit

The Offer

No direct link, shows up when doing a dummy booking

  • American Express is offering a sign up bonus of 70,000 miles after $2,000 in spend within the first three months. You also get a $200 statement credit after your first Delta purchase within three months of account opening

Card Details

  • Annual fee of $99 waived first year
  • Card earns at the following rates:
    • 2x miles per $1 spent on restaurants (including takeout and delivery), groceries and Delta purchases
    • 1x miles per $1 spent on all other purchases
  • $100 Delta Flight Credit when you spend $10,000 in purchases on your Card in a calendar year
  • First Checked Bag Free
  • 20% Back on In-flight Purchases
  • Receive Main Cabin 1 Priority Boarding on Delta flights

Our Verdict

American Express is currently offering increased bonuses on Delta cards. This dummy booking offer is significantly better than that increased offer as it includes the $200 credit. This deal is definitely worth doing if you’re eligible and will be added to the list of the best credit card bonuses.

How can you redeem the miles? Just for flights or for gift cards etc?

Do we need to spend on purchasing Delta flight tickets to qualify for $200 credit? Can we buy a gift card for qualification?

Purchases to meet the spend requirement do NOT include fees or interest charges, cash advances, purchases of travelers checks, purchases or reloading of prepaid cards, purchases of gift cards; person-to-person payments, or purchases of other cash equivalents. Delta Gift Cards and purchases made at deltashop.com and/or the Delta Flight Museum do not qualify.

Perhaps a refundable ticket to bank the Delta credit?

Got the pop up offer. I got the card number to start using. I didn’t complete the transaction. My understanding is, delta points never expiry. But we need to book a flight with Delta in 3 months in order to get $200 credit. Can we downgrade card to no fee card at year end. As the points never expire, i guess there is no need to no fee card to keep points alive with Delta right?

Can you buy GC with the credit?

It’s a “statement credit.” I think that means it just a credit on your cc bill.

We can use card everywhere (other than Delta) and redeem points as a statement credit right? Are 50k points worth $500? Is it possible to downgrade card to no fee card later and keep it. Considering delta points never expire, might not need to keep a no fee card i guess.
Thanks

Does the “Delta purchase” need to be a flight? Or can it be luggage or in-flight amenities?

I am getting the pop-up block due to not having enough miles. Is anyone able to provide a referral link (not sure if this is an option or if it is only emailed). My SO also has AMEX cards but since she doesn’t have a Delta card, I don’t believe she can refer me. Any way around this?

She can refer you to the Delta if she has an Amex Delta or non-cobranded card.

considering getting this card for SUB and because my local airport is a delta hub and I fly several times a year. Also keen on dodging checked bag fees for domestic flights. Is this offer (and the Delta Gold in general) worth a 5/24 spot? This card would put me at 5/24 until the end of November

Would this SUB be worthwhile for someone that does not travel? Can the 70k miles be converted to cash? If so, how much? Thanks!
