American Express has announced that they will be discontinuing the OPEN savings program on June 1st, 2018. After opening a SimplyCash Plus Business card reader Andrew N was presented with the following note:
- Effective June 1, 2018, the OPEN Savings program will no longer be available on your Business Card. You can view savings and rewards opportunities for business purchases, including offers from FedEx, in Amex Offers, which you can access by logging into your American Express online account at americanexpress.com.
For those not familiar American Express’ Open Savings program is similar to Visa SavingsEdge & Mastercard Easy Savings, select merchants give you rewards in addition to what you’d normally earn on your card. If that still doesn’t make sense, it’s basically long term American Express sync offers. For example with FedEx you get a 5% discount as a statement credit and two American Express Membership Rewards points per $1 spent.
Welp- AMEX just lost $260k/year spend with FedEx from my company. It’ll now be going on 3 CIPs.
Not sure if you got my message on the other page but I guess two messages is better than one. I apologize if I come across as being “salesy” but pretty confident that we can put you in a better spot with UPS. Worst comes to worst, we can’t help you out and let you know that you are in a good spot. Contact me at [email protected]. Hope to hear from you.

Here’s where this becomes a problem w/ me concerning Hertz, and that’s w/ United and their summer 5K miles promo. I would rent cars for a day w/ my CSP (insurance protection) and during the return checkout, I would use my *wood Bus cc for the discount.
WTH dude…
Are you sure the program is ending or is it merely no longer tied to the SimpyCash Plus Business card? The statement above leaves room for question.
Open wasn’t very enticing for me due to lack of strong offers at merchants I care about. Visa SavingsEdge is pretty good since I use it for Newegg, B&H, Office Depot usually.
Bummer I will miss the FedEx discounts.
Hopefully the discounts remain other another name or program. The FedEx discount is the only reason I have not canceled my business card.
Hertz is great, you can stack great discounts from Autoslash, 5% back on a cash back site like SimplyBestCoupons plus 5% back from Amex.
I heavily used the Hertz discount. This sucks.
This Hertz, you mean?
Good 1.
+1
Does this mean that this card is coming to an end?
This is not one card, the program is/was part of all AMEX business cards..
That’s true. I was ordering flowers for my daughters B-Day w/ my *woods Bus cc and was only thinking about that at the moment and forgot about the others. I was about to apply for the SimplyCash promo but now see no need.
Since I do a lot of shipping through Fedex, the 3X MR was a huge perk. Seems like Amex doesn’t want their customers anymore.
Amex doesn’t want their SMART customers anymore. Amex wants people that put all of their business expenses on a plat card, cough up $450 year after year, cash out MR for charges at 0.6 CPP, walk into a Centurion lounge twice a year, happen to check three bags a year at their selected airline.
which is exactly why perks were amazing many years ago. when nobody uses it, its super exclusive and plentiful. when 100k reddit n00bs flood the airports, then banks have no choice but to get fucking crazy and slap on 250k MQD Amex DL requirements. i gave amex feedback many times to match the damn CSR and Prestige + double the AF.
Hertz was a nice discount. It was great when you got 5% off at Hyatt – although I never understood that relationship since AMEX didn’t have any other business ties to the hotel.
