American Express Hilton Credit Card Sign Up Bonuses Announced [Application Links Now Live]

Update: All of the application links are now live:

Original post: American Express has announced the sign up bonus on the new Hilton cards. They are as follows:

  • Hilton Honors American Express Card (no annual fee card): 50,000 points after $1,000 in spend within the first three months
  • Hilton Honors American Express Ascend Card: Up to 100,000 points, broken down as follows:
    • 75,000 points after $2,000 in spend within the first three months
    • An additional 25,000 points after you spend an additional $1,000 within the first six months
  • Hilton Honors American Express Business Card: Up to 100,000 points, broken down as follows:
    • 75,000 points after $3,000 in spend within the first three months
    • An additional 25,000 points after you spend an additional $1,000 within the first six months
  • Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card: 100,000 points after $4,000 in spend within the first three months. This also comes with a free weekend night certificate your first year and on card anniversary.

I think the sign up bonus on the Aspire is weak, I was expecting a free night offer of at least two nights if not three. The fact it has effectively a worse sign up bonus than the Ascend and business card is surprising, although the benefits are significant but you’d also expect that with the $450 annual fee. More to come.

I need to downgrade the Amex Surpluss. Will I still be able to keep my free night certificate if I downgrade? I’m hoping later I can get the new card or maybe get an offer upgrade.

Anyone know if I downgrade my Amex Surpass (Ascend) will it cancel out my free anniversary night. My annual fee posted a week ago and I’m trying to get it refunded my downgrading. I don’t want to lose my free night though, the one they gave at first year renewal.

I just got the new AMEX card which was converted from Citi Hilton. What should I do with this card since the new AMEX cards seem better?

Thanks

I applied for the Business card. It went into pending – first time ever with Amex. I think it’s because I already have 5 credit cards with them, so they want me to give them a call.

No go. They want me to close one account. I can’t close my OBC because it’s my second oldest card. I can’t close my Hilton because it’s my fifth oldest card. I can’t close my ED and EDP because I have pending MR points that have not credited yet. I can’t close my SPG Business card because it’s only four months old. So, SOL. But the good thing is no hard pull!

I think you can have as many charge cards as you want BUT only five regular cards.

The benefit terms for the Aspire say they’ll send you a code for the free weekend night 8-12 weeks after account opening. Does anyone have experience that this would be accurate? (i.e. Hilton certs from other card?)

I’ve got a trip planned 6 weeks from now that I could get fantastic value out of that cert with a 2 night stay at a Waldorf Astoria, but if they’re for real going to wait 8 weeks to send it that does me no good.

At least with Citibank, the certs did seem to take awhile, so I wouldn’t count on it. Probably due mostly to Hilton’s horrible IT.

Anyone know if SPG or Marriott will match status with Hilton Gold? I seem to hear SPG will not match… I am trying to obtain Hilton Gold and SPG gold easily and know that my options seem to be AMEX platinum card which would give me both/being an AU on one OR a new Hilton card if I could match. Thanks!

You can get up to 75,000 bonus points on the no annual fee card (as opposed to the default 50,000) if you go through a referral link. Ask your friends for their link (or use mine 😉 ). [Link removed. Don’t post you’re referral links here. They are only allowed in referral specific threads. I’ve gone through your comment history and removed your legitimate referral link comments as punishment. Don’t do it again]

You should at least as a courtesy for pimping your link mention that the terms SPECIFICALLY state that applications that aren’t received by 1/17 WILL NOT receive the bonus.

This isn’t Citibank. Amex will approve apps and then later disqualify people based on many prior examples.

My apologies, I was not aware of that. Thanks for pointing it out. It is funny how it lets you go through the application when it is expired. Unfortunately I cannot edit my earlier comment. Admin please delete the link.

FYI, the latest referrals land to a 65,000 bonus point offer.

My *guess* is previous Surpass holders aren’t eligible for Ascend signup bonus. My long-cancelled Surpass is showing up as an Ascend in Amex.com

Too soon to say but here the first DP that you can have both: https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/7r7k1s/new_hilton_card_signup_bonuses/dsvdhs4/

I hope that person took a screenshot of that chat. I’m skeptical. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve been told things that aren’t accurate by amex CSR.

Oh i know, you are 100% right on that, I’ve been there, i had the no AF HH card for a year and closed it, applied for Surpass card and after a year downgraded to the no AF HH card, that was last Dec/17, i’m hopping to get an upgrade offer with 100k bonus again, that is why i kept the card last month, if not well i will cancel and get the Biz or the Aspire, i have over 350k points in my Hilton acc and i use it regularly.

The have specific exceptions for getting the $250 airline fee credit for the Aspire:

Airline tickets, upgrades, mileage points purchases, mileage points transfer fees, gift cards, duty free purchases, and award tickets are not deemed to be incidental fees.

If you can’t buy gift cards, forget it. It’s bad enough you have to pick a single airline. I wonder if they are going to add this to the Amex Plat cards.

Is this any different from the Amex Plat language?

But, yeah, waiting to see the first DPs on this from the new Aspire-ants above.

Big difference between what terms say and what has still been automatically crediting. And yes, I think that’s basically the same language as what is “allowed” for Platinum cards.
