The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • American Express is offering a 33% transfer bonus when you transfer Membership Rewards points to Hilton Honors. The normal rate is 1,000 Membership Rewards points = 1,500 Hilton Honors and with this promotion you’ll receive 2,010 Hilton Honors instead.

The Fine Print

  • Valid until 12/15/17

Our Verdict

They have offered the following targeted transfer bonuses in the past:

  • October 16th – November 30th, 2014: 33% bonus (going from a rate of 1:1.5 to a rate of 1:2)
  • December 1, 2012 to January 31, 2013, 2013: 33% bonus (going from a rate of 1:1.5 to a rate of 1:2)

Personally I think membership rewards points are significantly more valuable than Hilton points (even at a rate of over 1:2) so I won’t be transferring any points across. Might be worth it if you have a specific redemption in mind that provides outsized value and you have too many Membership Rewards points or you just need a small number of Hilton points for your redemption. For the majority of people this isn’t useful though. There is also a 30% transfer bonus to Virgin Atlantic as well. A full list of all past transfer bonuses for every transfer program can be viewed here.

So I just called American Express about the transfer not working and what I was told is that the bonus is only eligible on lower tier cards ie Everyday preferred, etc. Apparently my Biz Plat is in too high of a tier to qualify for this transfer bonus.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Not working for me either. Found a redemption that’s actually a pretty good value with this bonus, but can’t get it to work.

I see it when not logged in, but once I log in, the offer doesn’t show.

If youre short with hotel points this is an ok offer although still not too good because the Amex Gold becomes a 50K Hilton sign up bonus and the BGR a 100K Hilton bonus.
I like to transfer my amex points to Hawaiian airlines when they offer the 25% bonus.
64K MR points turns into 80K Hawaiian, good for a round trip nonstop flight from NY to HI.

Haven’t stayed at a Hilton property in just under a year, so I want to make a transfer to keep my points from expiring. Can anyone confirm that transferring points from Membership Rewards to HHonors would qualify and extend the expiration of Hilton points by a year? Thanks!!!

Because pooling points does NOT qualify as an activity to reset your points expiration date. And with Hilton, points expire within 12 months of no earning or redemption activity.

If your expiration date is coming up, here are the many ways you can earn or redeem Hilton points to extend the life of your points.

1. Earn Hilton Points

Stay at any Hilton hotel
Use a Hilton credit card
Buy, give, or receive Hilton points
Shop with the Hilton Shop-To-Earn Mall
Order flowers from FTD or Teleflora
Rent a car with a Hilton rental partner
Sign-up with Hilton Honors Dining and earn points when you dine out and pay with your registered card
Enroll in e-Miles and take surveys. Then, transfer points to your Hilton loyalty account
Earn points with LifeLock and NRG
Transfer miles from Hawaiian Airlines or Virgin Atlantic to Hilton in a 2 : 3 ratio
Transfer American Express Membership Rewards, Citi Thank You, or Diner’s Club points to Hilton.

In short Yes. Transfering MR points resets the clock.
