American Express Launches New Blue Business Plus Card (2x On All Purchases Up To $50,000 Per Year, No Annual Fee)

Update: There is a 20,000 offer on this card. More information can be found by reading this post.

American Express has launched a new business credit card called the Blue Business Plus Credit Card. The card earns at the following rates:

  • 2x Membership Rewards points on all purchases for the first $50,000 per calendar year
  • 1x Membership Rewards points on all other purchases

The card also comes with no sign up bonus and no annual fee. This makes it the highest membership rewards points earner for all purchases (previously this went to the American Express Everyday Preferred with up to 1.5x points on all purchases).

The downside to the card is the obvious lack of any sign up bonus, personally that’s a deal breaker for me. If you spend the full $50,000 in the first year you’d be earning an additional 25,000 points compared to the Everyday Preferred card. Considering American Express restricts you to one bonus per lifetime my suggestion would be to wait until a sign up bonus inevitably comes along for this card.

Update

Most of the public signup links on the Amex site don’t have any signup bonus. A reader found a Direct Link with a 20,000 points signup bonus, and we’ve added that to this post. Affiliate channels also have a 20,000 MR signup bonus offer after spending $3k. We don’t use affiliate links on the site, but you can find your favorite blogger who does have those link and use theirs.

I had an offer for 20K MR points after 5k spend when I logged into my account the other day. Not great, but it beats no bonus offer. Would be nice if they’d make it 50k like BRG.

I think the answer is No, but still wanted to confirm – can you pool MRs, like you can pool same household URs.

No, but you can transfer points into the frequent flyer account of a spouse.

oh ok. So they don’t validate that the FF and MR belong to the same person?

Thanks

It needs to have the same address.

I’m not sure I see what makes this card so great. Compared to 1.5X Chase UR, which I feel MR are comparable to, it is only an additional 0.5X. Cap is at $50K spend, so that’s only 25K MR benefit per year. One could argue that it would take about $60,000 uncategorized spend for this card to be with a HP. For me, that would take about 4 years.

Depends how you value a hypothetical 100K MR points vs 75K UR points. Sign-up bonuses are essentially equivalent. I will be getting one for my spouse as this trumps the Citi DC we currently use for non-bonus spend.

I have 4 Amex credit cards in addition to 2 charge cards? Recently., I’ve been reading that we can have up to 5 credit cards but I get the impression that this is a YMMV thing. Is there a consensus?

Limit is either 4 or 5, depending on how much Amex likes you.

Ooh, nice! Where did you find it?

I assume it was just by URL hacking the affiliate links. You cut out all the affiliate junk and that’s the common part of all their URLs.
