Looks like this is a fake. Definitely not an intentional April Fools on our part. I have no idea why people bother to fake this sort of thing
American Express is testing a new Metal Platinum card design called ‘Nude’. The simplified card is similar and likely in response to the new Apple card being launched. Currently American Express has selected 4,000 card members to trial the new design and provide feedback before changes are made and offered to the general card member base. The card design itself is basically the current card design, but without the card border and the word ‘Platinum’ under American Express has been removed. The CVV number has also been moved and is directly under the EMV chip. For fans of simplified design, I think there is still too much going on to actually be appealing especially in comparison to the Apple card. If any readers have received an invite to the new program and have pictures of the new card they are happy to share, please let us know in the comments or email them to [email protected].
Wish instead they would test some new benefits to the card. Because of location, I rarely use the Uber credit and some of the other benefits. With 4X points on the gold card for groceries and restaurants, I imagine I am going back to it when my AF is due.
Fake, move along.
1. Look at the bad content aware fill along the edge of the entire card. Look at the lower right corner and you can see where they had to fill further to capture the registration mark.
2. Right edge of the card where the four digits would be – look at the bad content aware fill. You can see how the application failed to align the background detail so you have lines going the wrong direction.
3. Look at the top of the Centurion. You can see where the application altered the oval in place of the “T” in Platinum.

You sir deserve a special thank you from us.
Happy April fools. No way any large company can respond that quickly. Just to develop a study whether to change the design would take months.
There’s a picture someone posted in the “Platinum Card Afficianos” Facebook group if anyone really wants to know what it looks like. Some speculation it’s photoshopped, as the edges do seem kinda blurry.
Here’s how we know it’s not real – they’ve updated their logo and design language and this card contains none of it.
For starters, the FB group it’s posted in requires you not to post picture of the card with CVV and he’s photoshopped it out before.
There definitely are signs of photoshop used all over this picture, for the edges as well as where the CVV is removed and where the word platinum is removed. It’s unisually low resolution is almost certainly deliberate to try to mask it.
It also seems suspicious Amex would send out communication that told people they are 1 of 4000.
Also seems unprecedented they would make a production run instead of just a survey.
The only thing that makes me think it initially might be real is the Facebook picture of the guy posting it looks technology illiterate. Once I realized the guy has used photoshop before, I don’t see how it couldn’t be a fake.
desperate marketing idea from a company with little other ideas for growth. yawn
I now have to throw my wallet in my suitcase when I go through precheck to avoid the metal detector going off. I don’t understand why anyone wants these heavy metal cards.
If they would lower the annual fee get rid of the silly credits, none of which work for me, it might be an attractive card.
Airline incidental credit -> general travel credit
Uber credit -> some other general credit (or just give us the bonus categories from the Gold)
AmEx, if you make those changes or lower the AF, you’ll have me as a Plat cardmember for a loooong time AND get the majority of my spending, regardless of how the card looks.
Until then, churn baby churn.
i would prefer they actually give us the uber credit in one lump sum vs the stupid monthly ones…
I’ve been told it’s an April fools joke … isbthis correct??
april fools?
