Our Verdict
These are both best-ever offers. A lot of people will find these interesting for the signup bonus and benefits, despite the high annual fees.
Use a friend’s referral link to apply so that they’ll get some free points as well. Check out these Things To Know About Amex before applying. We’ll add this to our list of Best Current Credit Card Signup Bonuses.
Can I assume that since this is Amex, the Brilliant PP doesn’t include restaurants? Or is that specific to the plat PP?
Yes, there’s a page at TPG that lists the cards as of about a year ago that included Priority Pass (PP) with restaurants, and it’s 6 cards, 3 of which were Chase cards where it says that the restaurants feature was ending on June 30 of last year, and thus at most 3 of those cards listed still have that feature.
And that page also says that Amex dropped restaurants from Amex’s version of Priority Pass much earlier, I think around 2019.
Pop-up jail for both – was actually willing to burn a 5/24 slot on the Brilliant, but I guess Amex is saving me from a rash decision…
Currently 3/24, most recently applied for Chase United Business (February 2025, denied), then Bonvoy Business (October 2024, approved). Admittedly, I’m not spending a lot on my Amex cards since getting the Bonvoy Biz bonus.
I’ll start putting some spend on those cards, lower my credit limits across the board, and try again before the deadline.
Just applied and got received the Pop Up Jail notification. I currently spend several thousand a month on my gold card so it’s probably not for lack of activity. Try again in a month?
Thanks for the post.
I know it’s almost certainly unrealistic, but something in me really likes the idea of slowly, passively grinding out lifetime platinum despite not being a business traveler
The best things in life are earned!
hahahahaahha
With the recent points devaluation the sign up bonus is less attractive. Ive had held card for a year and use it for the free night up to 85k (which is still valuable to a certain extent because you can top off to 100k). Im waiting another year to get a chase / ritz card
Less attractive indeed. These SUBs are as exciting as Sheldon.

When is the best time to downgrade/close Bevy? Apart from SUB the card has no value
As soon as the second AF posts, use the credits you can. Then close
There are no credits, just plain $250 AF
Disagree. Restaurant credit and cert mostly offset the AF, but return protection and platinum status are rare and interesting benefits that make this worth a slot for some, I think.
For those “Free Night Awards” can they be topped off with points (and if yes, what’s the limit) for better quality stays?
Yes, you can add 15,000 points to top up the certificate
P2 and I both hold the Brilliant, it’s a great status card for traveling overseas, Platinum status doesn’t get you much for perks beyond the late checkout time in the US so keep that in mind.
Also keep in mind that Marriott just had its yearly “great devaluation” just a couple of weeks ago, P2 didn’t even bother trying to get the SUB.
Marriott is currently holding it’s double night promotion so at least sign up for a membership!
hahah worthless bonvoy points..no way . keep your dumb card amex
Maybe worthless for you, but they are great for me. When I go to Mexico it’s about 8000 points/night (or $100/night if I pay cash) at the Marriott Courtyard I stay at. So if I get the Brilliant that will give me enough points for 23 nights which would cost me $2300 if I pay cash. Well worth it for me.
Like a free titanium status with a free trip to Mexico
oh boy a free trip to mexico?
I use to play with Bonvoy points way back and their face-value were somewhat decent back around 2015 to 2017.
How are properties in the U.S? Is this pretty much just a card to use internationally or can deals still be had in the states?
Dan
I picked a Sheraton in my city and the cheapest points per night is 16,500 or $120 with cash. So not quite as good of a value as in Mexico, but not terrible either.
