I can only get 80k and 125k to show up. Even tried referral links from Reddit and the one down below that someone said worked on sept 20 2024. Tried on desktop brave, edge, iPhone safari brave. All browsers with and without private, on and off WiFi. Didn’t try vpn. For vpn do you guys choose certain states? Does another country do anything?

I have weird experience with this ! I have only BCP and it shows 100k for gold (6k spend) and only 80k for platinum. Yesterday, Tried to use referral link for 175k for platinum but when i apply, it says I am not eligible for welcome offer and can withdraw application without affecting credit score. Chatted with amex and they said nothing we can do about this. I tried gold card and it worked with the 100k offer so applied successfully and got instant card too. I retested amex platinum and same popup of not eligible for welcome offer (I never tried the 80k offer as i dont want it to auto approve).

But later last night i noticed an email from amex with 175k offer that was sent a week ago. So i tried that link just for fun and miraculously, that one got approved (8k in 6 months) with instant card info !.

Now need to figure out how can i spend 14k in 6 months ! Any one know any hacks? The credit union that i know accepted amex is no longer accepting !

When I click the offer link from this page and am not logged into my AMEX account, I see “You may be eligible for as many as 175,000 languages.” However, if I am logged into my AMEX account, I see the “Earn 80,000 Membership Rewards® Points” offer. Does that mean I would only receive 80K points if I apply and am approved? On a related note – I have a Gold card offer in my AMEX for 60K only, whereas I received a mail for a 100K offer(valid till 2/28/25).
Also,

  • What is the cash value of these points?
  • What would happen to points if you close or downgrade the account after a year to avoid the fees?
  • Is there a way to get the waiver/refund of the first-year fee?
  • Lastly, what credit bureau does AMEX pull?

Thank you in advance!

  • cash value is less 1c per point but airline points are minimum 1:1 with bonus time to time. Most people apply for airline/hotel point transfers.
  • Membership Reward points will be lost if you close all of the amex cards with MR points. Better transfer/cash before closing. One last option is open their free checking bank account (only for cash redeemable) and that can retain the MR points and infuture if you apply new card with MR that points will be better usable.
  • No
  • Transunion mostly but if that is locked, they may go with other CBs

Broadly speaking, does Amex still limit Amex bonuses to once per lifetime, even if the language is not explicitly included in the offer terms?

Using the link above, I get an offer for “up to 175,000” points, and the offer terms there clearly state that “You may not be eligible to receive a welcome offer if you have or have had this Card, the Platinum Card® from American Express Exclusively for Charles Schwab, the Platinum Card® from American Express Exclusively for Morgan Stanley or previous versions of these Cards.”

However, if I log into my Amex account and see what cards are recommended to me, I see an offer for 125k point for Amex Platinum and 100k points for Amex Gold, even though I have previously (>4 years ago) received the bonus from these cards. Looking at the offer terms, the language above is clearly absent.

I’m trying to understand if it’s worth trying to apply for this card again. I realize I may ultimately end up in popup jail and be told I won’t receive a bonus if I apply, but I’d like to first see if others have DP around this.

I was in pop-up jail for many years and could never get out, even with fairly regular use of my old “Blue Cash” Amex. I tried today on a whim and didn’t get the pop-up, and then was approved, so I guess I would say it is worth another try.

Just got a 175,000 point offer in the mail. Debating signing up for it and downgrading my CSR when it comes due in June. I have a large charge due in the next six months for a LTC policy so I’ll be able to him the $8k spend requirement (assuming they take AMEX, I guess I should check).

I also see the 175,000 offer under my AMEX Offers.

Amex Platinum offers all now saying “UP TO 175K” rather than guaranteeing – and won’t tell you till after you apply. That’s a load of malarkey.

What’s the big deal about it? If you don’t like the exact offer you get after applying – just cancel the application.

the big deal is the you could just re-try incognito mode a few times and get a real 175k offer. now you have to apply first and once you get your offer and its not 175k you can forget about the 175k

Trying to decide between this and the Schwab AMEX platinum.

Wanted to know if this cash loophole works to get 1 cent/point instead of 0.6 cents/point. I heard this works but wanted to know if anyone has done it and can verify. If it works, this deal is better than the Schwab deal for cash.

If I buy a refundable fare from American Express using points and get a refund, I get a statement credit back, not points. A statement credit isn’t cash, but it’s close – good anywhere AMEX is accepted.

Would that work to get more than the 0.6 cents/point from the 175k bonus points?

I do not travel, so none of the travel benefits have value for me. Haven’t left my metropolitan area in years.
