Our Verdict

This is absolutely a terrific deal for many people who will be able to use the $300 in credits and who will be able to use much of the 10x grocery/gas allotment. Standard bonus on the Platinum card is 60,000; this offer bumps that to 75,000, adds $300 in restaurant credits, and adds the 10x grocery/gas deal.

Maxed out, you can get an extra 135,000 points from the gas/grocery bonus (9 x 15,000)! Even if we figure you wouldn’t have used a card that earns 1x; let’s figure you would have earned 4x (or the equivalent in another points currency), that’s still an extra 6x which is 90,000 points when maxed out.

Even if you won’t be able to use much of the 10x grocery/gas, it still could make sense if you can max out the $300 restaurant credit (requires $1,500 in restaurant spend): the 75,000 + $300 restaurants + some small amount used on grocery/gas is still a good deal.

And of course you’ll also get the $200 airline incidental credit (twice during the first year), $200 in Uber credits each year, the twice-annual $50 Saks credit (three times during the first year), and the tail-end of the $20 wireless and $20 streaming credits for the months of November and December.

Personally, I’d be very interested in this offer if I never had the Platinum bonus before. I’d probably wait a few days before applying since last time Resy came out with an offer, it was quickly matched with (non-Resy) offers that were just as good.

If you’re thinking of applying, make sure you read these things everybody should know about American Express cards first. There’s also a new Resy offer on the Amex Gold card. Amex does not officially match bonuses, but often does extend courtesy credits.

Have been in pop-up purgatory for years now and never expected to be approved. Applied using chrome incognito, pop-up… then tried 5 minutes later using Safari Private and went pending… approved today… hoping I get the SUB…

Are the terms saying that groceries and gas at Walmart, Sams, & Costco don’t qualify for the 10x? We do almost all our grocery shopping at Walmart… Look:
“Earn 9 additional points per dollar on the first $15,000 of combined eligible purchases at supermarkets located in the U.S. (superstores and warehouse clubs are not considered supermarkets) and gas stations located in the U.S. (superstores, supermarkets, and warehouse clubs that sell gasoline are not considered gas stations)”

Looks like Samsung, Apple, & Walmart pay are not going to work for the 10x either:
“A purchase may not qualify for additional points if the merchant submits the purchase using a mobile or wireless card reader or if you use a mobile or digital wallet.”

Does anyone know if an authorized gold user on the Platinum will also get 10x on groceries ? In short, is the spend done using an AU gold card treated the same way ?

DW was in Pop-up Purgatory since last year- after canceling Ameriprise Plat

But didn’t get on this offer or Hilton Aspire card (P1 Referral) but has put very little spend on cards since meeting MSR on Hilton Biz card last year. So I don’t think that it is a spend issue.

P2 is out of Pop-up Purgatory. Yeaaaa! P2 app’d the Resy Plat offer while logged in. No -popup.

P2 also added an Aspire recently (Referral P1).

2021 will be interesting with all the “incidental credits” Six Plats, two Aspire’s ($1,700)

That said still ahead of the game with streaming, shipping, cell credits, Dell Credits, sak’s, appreciation credits, travel credits, Shop small, SUB’s Uber Eats, MR’s, HH points so even if things on the ground change with Incidentals still coming out far enough ahead even with $4,300 in AF.

Crazy tho I have to use a spreadsheet to keep up with all the credits to make sure that I don’t leave any money on the table.

Got a question. I opened a Gold Premier card about 5 years ago, a bit later took a upgrade bonus to platinum card, closed the card a 2 years after upgrading. Would I still qualify for a sign up bonus on this platinum offer?

You would not qualify for the sign up bonus. You’ve held the Platinum previously.

@Doc- why should we wait for the offer to become a regular public one? What is the downside of the Resy offer? Thanks for all your work!

Looks like you were right. I just checked this morning and I’m seeing a 100k offer with the 10x bonus on supermarkets and gas but no 20% for restaurants.

Definitely makes the decision tougher.

Not for me, at least. My referral link creates a 75K offer, but without the restaurant credit or the dining/gas bonuses.
