American Express Platinum Adds New Walmart+ & Useless SoulCycle Benefit

As rumored American Express has added new benefits the American Express Platinum card. The benefits are as follows:

  • Walmart+ monthly credit. Cardholders will receive a $12.95 credit (covers the full cost of membership)
  • SoulCycle At Home Bike Credit. Cardholders can receive a $300 credit when purchasing a SoulCycle bike (up to 15 bikes per year).

The SoulCycle at home bike costs $2,500 and you need to make the purchase in a single purchase to qualify (e.g you can’t use the credit multiple times for the same bike). You also need Equinox+ membership to use the SoulCycle. Basically the SoulCycle benefit is useless. The Walmart+ credit is useful as it covers the full membership, although Walmart+ membership itself isn’t that interesting offering:

  • Unlimited free deliveries on orders from 4,700 stores
  • Discounts at Walmart and partner gas stations (Murphy USA and Murphy Express fuel stations). Discounts of up to 5¢ per gallon
  • Access to scan & go in store (e.g scan items in store and exit without visiting a cashier. Pay via Walmart Pay)

In my opinion the only reason American Express adds benefits such as SoulCycle is so that ridiculous claims can be made (over $4,500 in SoulCycle value added). Walmart+ membership seems to cheapen what is a premium card as well.

W+ perk just got better–Paramount+ included. Not a value-add for me, but likely will be for others

Anyone receive their credit for this month yet? Been 10 days and nothing has posted.

No, it has been weird this month. My charge posted on Mar 23, but no credit as for now.

Just a reminder that the credit doesn’t cover taxes so you end up paying about $1 per month…

My credit does cover the tax. (UT)

Was charged my first W+ payment 10/27 and still haven’t gotten a credit as of 11/8.
Online Chat CSR says it may take 6-8 weeks for my $14.08 to get back on my card, so may be 2 or 3 monthly payments in before the credit for my first month possibly comes. Great.

I was charged for W+ a few days ago, credit posted the same day for the full amount including tax. Kudos to Amex for fixing this. Not that I plan to use this benefit much.

lilurbanachiever – did you say anything special to them? I’ve discussed this with three CSRs so far and they keep stonewalling me saying not to worry that I still haven’t been reimbursed 28 days later.

Chris Nope, it posted automatically. I did not have to call them. Amex seems to be having some issues lately. While this credit posted for me, the Samsclub offer did not, although that one also posted automatically for a lot of other people.

Just found the full cost doesn’t include taxes. What a lie!

Same here. Granted its just over a dollar, but still…not exactly “free” as advertised.

Walmart+ is absolutely not reading the room for their customers.

It is not only useless, but retarded! If it is $300 credit to buy any real bicycle, then it is a reasonable human thinking
