[Update 12/9/17: Card will be discontinued in February 2018.]
When American Express launched their coalition loyalty program Plenti they also launched a co-branded Plenti credit card. That loyalty program has been struggling recently with founding partner AT&T set to leave the program on October 31st. It looks like American Express has discontinued the Plenti card, it no longer appears in their credit card line up and all direct links to the card have also been removed. This isn’t exactly a huge loss since the card was awful, hopefully American Express replace it with something that is even remotely worth applying for.
American Express made the following comment:
American Express launched Plenti in 2015 in partnership with major brands in a variety of retail categories. While Plenti has grown in scale since its launch, a number of factors, including shifting priorities among some founding partners and changing competitive conditions in their industries, have led to recent public announcements from certain founding partners regarding their future loyalty plans. American Express is in confidential discussions with a few remaining Plenti sponsors regarding the future of the program.
We’ve asked specifically about the Plenti card & received the following response:
We are evaluating the Plenti credit card and have decided to suspend new applications for the product. We will provide additional information at the appropriate time.
From my reading it looks like American Express are planning to end the Plenti program entirely, but let’s see what happens.
GOT THE OFFICIAL LETTER TODAY … AMERICAN EXPRESS PLENTI CREDIT CARDS WILL BE CLOSED IN FEBRUARY WITH NO OFFER OF ALTERNATIVE CARD WITH SAME CREDIT LIMIT … CHATTED WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE & WAS TOLD TO WOULD HAVE TO START OVER & REAPPLY FOR ANOTHER TYPE AMERICAN EXPRESS CARD … BAD BUSINESS … I’M OUT!
Am I the only one who finds Plenti to be a super-valuable MR transfer partner?? Like, one of the best 2 or 3. if used at macys you can earn at the portal whilst redeeming, where I live mobil has competitive prices so in that instance plenti is as good as cash if you ask me.
Maybe they are creating fewer, but possibly more valuable, partners within Plenti. I hope MR and mobil at least keep it going, and another transfer bonus would without question hit the spot!
What if I live in a large city with no need for gas, best redemption for my Plenti points?
I bought some cookware at macys, best use I could think of.
Hoping for just one more MR to Plenti transfer bonus promo. I need free gas…. for a year.
Transfer like 10k from MR to plentiful back when there was the double promotion, bought a Samsung S8 from ATT and using rest of points for gas ever since. It is probably useless for me if not the double transfer point promo
Local supermarket chain Winn-Dixie just joined the program recently and they’ve been pushing new memberships pretty hard at the checkout line. The idea of an inherently cross-referenced loyalty program kinda freaks me out, so I’ve refused to join.
Direct Energy hasn’t had an offer for a while, although you still get points for usage. Hulu hasn’t has an offer in a few months. It appears to be a slow lingering death for Plenti. I got most of my points from Direct Energy in one of my churns of my electric contract, and I think I’ve cashed most of them out.
I’ve mostly earned them at Rite Aid and through Macys purchases. I’ve been kinda eh about them. Could be better, could be worse.
Am I the only one who loves Rite Aid’s Plenti point deals? I’ve been able to get some real bargains. Rite Aid’s Plenti-based rewards program is miles ahead of their competitors (CVS and Walgreen’s) — better deals and a 2-year expiration. It doesn’t hurt that I pick up a few points at Exxon/Mobil, but I’ve only used the points at Rite Aid.
LOVE the RAD deals. I buy GCs there nearly every week to earn more Plenti. I get 20% off everything in the store, and I love never having to actually pay for anything (except GCs, since they can’t be bought with points). With RAD sadly going away, I figured the Plenti days were numbered anyway. Sigh.
Anyone think they’ll compensate your Plenti points when it bites the dust?
Doubtful, would give you a set amount of time before making them worthless most likely
Lol. Just cashed out. Now left with 40 points. Dunno what to do with it. I liked Plenti for those rite aid gift card offers though!
