Our Verdict
The 3x earning rate is in addition to the points you’d normally earn (e.g this would make the personal gold card earn 7x on grocery purchases). Given that there is no cap I can’t see American Express being tolerant to manufactured spend and they are known for clawbacks. American Express referral bonuses are sometimes as high as 30,000 points so you do need to spend a lot to get value out of this new promotion. This promotion actually stacks with the standard referral bonus.
Please do not share any of your referrals in the comments below, if you do they will be deleted and any other referrals you have on the site will be removed as well.

It would be helpful if those of you who have not yet received bonus points would name the card that you used to make the referral. I eventually found out that my card was not eligible to refer for bonus points. But, that is another long story.
Is anybody getting bonus points posted? I put a lot of spend on this card (not grocery) but only a few hundred points posted as of now, seem aggregated but I can’t figure out what transactions are included. I filed a BBB complaint, got a letter from Amex saying all points for the previous month will post in a lump sum amount for all eligible spend once a month at the end of the next four months. The first “next” month was December. Of course points didn’t post….
Yes — I was worried when points weren’t posting daily but have now received one lump sum posting, presumably for the first month of bonus spending. Hopefully the next lump sum posts soon..

First batch posted in middle of Dec after my first complaint. These were for October spending. Second batch posted in mid January presumably for November, points posted only AFTER I filed another complaint with BBB. Amex sent me a letter saying everything will post by February. Today is December 30th….if points won’t posr I’ll keep filing BBB complaints. I referred from gold card.

It’s odd though, because it isn’t showing up with every transaction, and in some cases appears to be aggregated (I had a $320 charge and a $15 charge on the same day and have a Bonus of 1,005 MR points, which is 3x $335).
So, no updates from anyone about the 3X? It has been about 8 weeks and I have received nothing, nada, zero bonus points for a referral. Anyone else in the same boat or does Amex just not like me?
me neither, i talked to more than 10 people in amex, now i gave up and started to email amex ceo directly
Chat agent confirmed the 3x not showing up is a known issue being actively worked on for resolution.. for anyone that’s not getting it. I have one account getting the 3x while p2 is not.

I’ve been getting 4x on my Gold buying VGC at places like Giant Eagle without any problems. So I wonder if I should therefore NOT refer through the +3x offer? If people really think that AMEX won’t have tolerance for manufactured spending for this deal, then I wonder if it could actually HURT to have it, since once they flag it they will take off the regular 4x bonus as well. Anyone else have thoughts on this? I see a lot of people using the Gold card to sign up for this, probably because of the 7x opportunities, but I wonder if this could be really risky and a potential downside.

I still don’t see any bonus points although the person I referred was approved 3 weeks ago. Anyone managed to understand why this is the case? Seems like other people see the bonus points

I referred someone from my Amex Gold on 10/21 and they were approved. The 25k points posted but the 3x points are not posting. I just used chat to confirm the offer is on my card, but they cited the same 8-12 weeks language for the bonus points. I guess I am glad I checked but I would feel better if the points were posting daily like they are for other people!
