American Express Removes $100 LoungBuddy Credit On Green Card

American Express has removed the $100 Lounge Buddy credit on the American Express Green Card. It’s no longer showing as a benefit on the landing page meaning it’s no available for new applicants but existing cardholders have until January 13, 2025 to use the credit.  You can use the credit in advance up to two months in advance.

It’s unclear if this part of American Express refreshing this card or if it’s a straight out benefit reduction.

LoungeBuddy is being fully decommissioned effective January 30 so not surprised they’re getting rid of a credit for something that won’t even exist in 4 months.

I will not be surprised if they add a $10/month or $25/qtr Uber Credit like the Gold card. Since the Green is “supposed to be” a competitor to the CSP and C1V it would make sense to add a ride share credit.

At $25/qtr Uber and $199 CLEAR annual credits they could “rationalize” a $175 annual fee; $195 would be pushing it.

If they REALLY wanted to make it attractive make it a $25/qtr Transit credit including ride share vendors (Uber, Lyft).

Wells Fargo Autograph is 3X on travel and dining. No annual fee. (Or, the Journey with 5X on hotels and 4X on airfare for a $95 AF.) Couple that with the NAF Active Cash with an uncapped 2X. Eventually, WF will build out its transfer partners. Given how the whole terrain is shifting, one has to wonder where Amex is heading.

Wells Fargo just reported a security breach of any information that they have on account holders. An employee is behind the breach. Affected customers will be notified.

Excellent point. AMEX really needs to get rid of the coupon book or at least come out with some solid cards that don’t use it. A credit for Global Entry/Precheck is OK, but this nickle and dime stuff with Uber, Resy, Five Guys and Dunkin of all places is just embarrassing. In my opinion it takes away from the cachet of AMEX and just makes it feel cheap and gimmicky. I know why they do it, because many people just don’t bother using the credits so it’s cheaper for them – but IMO they are damaging their reputation.

Ugh, my Gold card is up for renewal in February and I was going to downgrade to the Green card. Well, maybe I’ll be lucky and they’ll come up with something worthwhile to justify the $150 fee. I like the Gold card, but $325 is a bit much to pay and I’m sick of playing coupon book justification. I don’t really use Resy and monthly visits to Five Guys and Dunkin’ isn’t doing my A1C counts any good.

You don’t have to actually use Resy to get the $50 credit. Just pay with the Gold card at any restaurant which shows up on Resy’s site. This is one of AMEX’s easiest credits to use and some people even get it by accident.

Understood, but I normally don’t eat at Resy restaurants. So this causes me to have to seek one out. I’m just tired of the coupon-book. It’s tedious.

That’s unfortunate – i did find this a great benefit for buying lounge passes for family members who have no PP or status, when I am not traveling with them, though it was not at all useful for me since I have PP / Amex lounge / *A Gold already.

I wish they would eliminate all the credits and just have great multipliers.

But they won’t, since these credits cost them almost nothing compared to multipliers, sadly

Immediate cancel for me since my annual renewal fee for this card is due and the Clear membership lately has not been saving me all that much time over normal TSE Pre.

Also, the times I used the LoungeBuddy credit for lounge access, the lounges acted like they didn’t know how to process my admission, each and every time, at multiple lounges! Eventually, they just let me in and take the LoungeBuddy printout I had, just so that I’m not holding up the line.

$3 monthly credit at Dairy Queen
$6 monthly credit at Krispy Kreme Doughnuts

Don’t forget the $2 monthly credit towards the rental of a mailbox inside of a UPS Store and the $1 credit to take passport photos at Staples every 10 years.

They did, but the copper eroded to green years ago. Just like the Statue of Liberty.

It’s been about 4 years since its last refresh. Resy credits?
